
Veterans who built, trained and advised the Iraqi Army explain why it crumbled so fast.
As a vet who daily reads military discussion forums, this doesn't come to me as “news”. Of all of the article, this quote from a soldier who was there says it all:
“They weren’t soldiers because they wanted to be soldiers,” explained Marine First Lt. Dave Jackson, who fought with Iraqi forces during his two deployments to Iraq. “They were soldiers because they wanted a job.”
We did away with all the Iraqi officers and noncoms with experience and replaced them with a bunch of amateurs. And yes, I blame politicians from President Bush's administration as well as Obama's. We were so busy being politically correct that we forgot what it takes to have effective leadership – desire!
