When I was in junior high, this much shorter kid tried to rob me on the street, but he attempted to do it through intimidation, not phyiscal force, although I think he said he had a knife. It's funny how you never mention William Brock, who was also white and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a black woman who pulled up to his house in her uber vehicle. Jury was likely all white as well since blacks make up less than 1% of the population in South Charleston.

Chow definitely should have gone to jail, but he took advantage of fucked up South Carolina laws. But that same law would have allowed Cyrus to turn around and use his gun on Chow and then get away with murder if he ended up hitting his target and killing him. In SC, it's about about who draws and shoots first.

There's no evidence that he intended to kill him, and his reaction was that he was surprised he had.

Reality is, it's actually kind of hard to kill someone with a knife. Which is why we have 34,000 stabbing injuries reported by hospitals, but only 1600 deaths.
