Sen. Mike Lee withdrew a controversial provision Saturday that would have mandated the sale of up to 1.2 million acres of federal public lands, citing concerns about foreign purchasers and facing fierce opposition from fellow Republicans.
The Utah Republican announced the decision in a social media post, ending a weeks-long battle over the measure that had sparked widespread public opposition across political and cultural lines.
The specific verbiage said the amount sold was to be determined by the Interior Secretary.
It didn’t say .05% or whatever Lee was quoting. It was just left up to the .gov to sell of whatever they wanted to sell to their cronies.
Mike Lee must’ve had a ton of money coming with that deal, because everyone hates his guts now. Talk about a losing issue.
