Canada to Cut Off Electricity to US States: 'Need to Feel the Pain'
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said on Monday that he would block energy exports to the United States "with a smile" if U.S. President Donald Trump moved ahead with plans for a 25 percent tariff on Canadian goods.
Trump announced on Monday that tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China would go into effect on Tuesday.
Speaking at a mining convention on Monday, Ford, a progressive conservative, addressed the Trump administration directly.
"I don't start a tariff war, but we're going to win this tariff war," he said, adding, "If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do everything—including cut off their energy with a smile on my face, and I'm encouraging every other province to do the same."
Ford added: "They rely on our energy. They need to feel the pain."
Fords are garbage. I would never buy anything from them.
Bet mine holds value far longer.
Thanks for your concern about our economic pain, especially after years of making excuses for inflation, high gas prices, high grocery prices, and lying to us that it was all “transitory”.'Trump’s trade wars threaten to claim a casualty on the home front: the American auto industry.
If the president goes ahead with 25% taxes on imports from Canada and Mexico on Tuesday, he will disrupt more than $300 billion in annual U.S. automotive trade with its two neighbors, wreck supply chains that have been operating for decades and likely push up the already-forbidding price of new cars.
The tariffs pose an “existential'' threat to North American auto production, said David Gantz, a fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy. They will push up “the cost of everything that’s imported from Mexico or Canada that goes into a car assembled in the U.S.‘’
Kelley Blue Book says Trump’s tariffs could raise the U.S. price of the average new car – already approaching $49,000 – by $3,000 or more. The price of some full-size pickup trucks could shoot up by $10,000.
The economic pain would intensify if Canada and Mexico counterpunched with tariffs on American exports.'

My understanding of how tarrifs work for Japanese cars is that it is a charge proportional for all cars imported vs. built here. That is, it does not matter where your individual car was built. If Toyota imports 10% of their Camrys, the tarrif for that is distributed over 100% of the Camrys sold in the US. So even though your car was built in Kentucky, there is still a tarrif cost burden on that specific car.No it doesn't you idiot and you obviously don't know what the fuck you are talking about.
Go bother someone else.
There is zero tariff on a Tundra, period.
The reason being tariffs in place since 1964 like I already posted. That is why they have factories here.
Try to buy a Toyota Helix and you will pay a tariff as they are built in Japan for an entirely different market. The Tacoma became America's version of that truck to avoid the tariff and to comply with stricter safety standards.
Cut the regulations that make cars so damn expensive, to begin with. When a new 3/4 ton pickup already costs $80,000 and out of reach of the working class, what's another ten grand going to matter.'Trump’s trade wars threaten to claim a casualty on the home front: the American auto industry.

Just a quick AI Google search, this comes up.My understanding of how tarrifs work for Japanese cars is that it is a charge proportional for all cars imported vs. built here. Of course, I could be full of shit too.
Should they all be made in America? You sure about that? Won't that jack up the price? Especially after those employees organize into unions?Where do the parts come from?
The guy who told me is a corporate analyst who specializes in car company financial statements. He said it would be impossible for car companies to price their fleets if they did it the other way. Part of tarrifs are absorbed by the importer, and part are paid by the consumer depending on the price sensitivity of the buyer. So they have to distribute it across the fleet.Just a quick AI Google search, this comes up.
, American-built Japanese cars do not pay a tariff because they are not imported from Japan. Japanese automakers have plants in North America that produce vehicles sold in the U.S., and these vehicles are not subject to tariffs
Tell that to the families of the hundreds of thousands that have died from fentanyl. Leading cause of death for 18-35 year olds. And what's sad is he isn't going to fix anything for anyone who's poor or middle class.
Tell that to the families of the hundreds of thousands that have died from fentanyl. Leading cause of death for 18-35 year olds.
OK. Feel better? Not sure why you think fentanyl poisoning is a race thing or a union thing. It kills all races and all economic levels. When people don't have good economic opportunities, they turn into pieces of shit. For years white arrogantly made fun of blacks who were living where there were no economic opportunities. Meanwhile, everyone in my high school landed a job good enough to raise a family. College or not. That's back when America was great.
Today, we see whites acting a lot like the blacks did in the 80's. When they were addicted to crack. And what's amazing is this "economic despair" phenomenon is only happening to uneducated whites. Men and women. No other groups.
Examines increased Deaths of Despair with a focus on the white working-class.
(suicide, drug poisoning, alcohol related). These deaths have been increasing since the mid-1990s and, at least until recently, tended to be clustered amongst whites without a four-year college degree. Various competing explanations have been put forth, emphasizing distinct factors such as material conditions, socio-cultural dynamics, and accessibility to opioids.
Don't blame Democrats. We supported high paying union jobs. Back in the Reagan and Bush years, Republicans attacked unions. Trump is attacking unions today. So all those high paying jobs left and now those uneducated Americans are dying of suicide, alcohol or fentynol.
Where were you the last four years when the prices for everything spiked?... not "could" they did spike so did interest rates... and you said nothing you hack...'Trump’s trade wars threaten to claim a casualty on the home front: the American auto industry.
