The republicans tried to negotiate a deal so it wouldnt happen and the democrats refused to compromise. What they have done for 6 months on appointments is wrong and they know it.

During President Biden's tenure, the Democratic majority in the Senate confirmed 235 federal judges, which included a significant number of women and people of color, breaking previous records for diversity in judicial appointments. This achievement highlights the Democrats' focus on filling judicial vacancies with qualified candidates despite facing challenges in a divided Senate.
During President Biden's tenure, Senate Democrats have utilized the 51-vote majority to pass legislation, particularly through budget reconciliation, which allows them to bypass the usual 60-vote threshold for most bills and judicial appointments. This strategy has enabled them to advance key parts of their agenda without needing Republican support.

He did it because Reid did it so... Nice try, but fail.
He did something different than Reid. He allowed a simple majority vote for Supreme court justices. Reid changed the rules for only members of an elected presidents cabinet. They were getting stalled and Reid had no choice. That only effected those who serve that president at the presidents pleasure. Unlike the Supreme court justices who hold their position for life. Allowing a simple majority to select highly partisan justices has weaken the Courts and the USA substantially.

The brilliance of their ploy of course was to pass the blame on to Reid. The so called liberal media barely made a peep about it either. They still don't.

No...
He changed the rules for circuit and district court justices, because it convenienced him to do so.
McConnell applied the Reid Rule to SC justices.
McConnell only changed the rule because Reid changed it before him.

And now, you're riding in the back of that bus.

Honestly, there is no point to the Senate anymore. It used to be a deliberative body with different rules from the House. The Senate through the filibuster gave substantial rights to the minority. The filibuster is now headed out the door. The Senate is now headed to be like the House where majority controls and the minority has zero power.

Is this bad?

it is no different really than a parliamentary style government where the majority rules and the minority can do nothing but scream into the wind.

The Senate was the last bastion of minority rights…well not for very much longer.

There's little difference between the British system of governance to American.
The Brit's have the House of Commons and the House of lords..
Similarly we have Congress of Representatives of the People and a Senate Representing the States.
The one thing the British system does not have is the Judicials as part of their system of governance.

Duh. I was referring to the rights of parties in the minority vis-a-vis both systems not arguing they were the same.

Its called the tyranny of the minority. Thune tried to negotiate, Schumer would not, so Thune went nuclear, majority rules.

Democrats have blocked most of Trump's nominees, Thune and the Republicans tried to negotiate, in vain, going nuclear is the only option, thank you!! All 53 Republicans voted for the rules change, a pleasant surprise, that shows how unreasonable the democrats have been.

Hundreds of positions remain unfilled due to democrats. Hell, we are 3/4ths of the way through the first year of his term.

This is government obstruction. Peaceful transfer of power my ass.

They need to nuke the democrats. Then keep nuking them.

Then change all the rules back against them if they ever lose power.

Senate Republicans invoke ‘nuclear option’ to change rules to confirm Trump nominees

The 53-43 party-line vote came after negotiations intensified earlier Wednesday on a bipartisan deal to speed the nominations, but it failed to get enough Democratic support and Republicans moved forward with the partisan rule change.

Thune needs to change the rules for appropriations bills, and rescissions.

Democrats can not be negotiated with.
They must be vanquished.

Other. It had to be done. 9 months is too long.

I'm not endorsing this due to it being a weapon of mass destruction on our legislative process.

But every president has a right to his cabinet and nominees. The obstruction had to be removed.

Are you saying Reid didn't change it for executive nominees?

I know you have to try and dodge the fact that McConnell Changed it for the Supreme Court.

So you're saying when Repub's blocked Obama's nominees for positions in his admin and lower federal courts Reid was justified in ending the filibuster?
