US Seeks To Imprison Single Mother

I once was on a flight and sat next to a female soldier who had just returned from Iraq. She said the females described it as "Queen for a Year". All soldiers are severely punished for having relationships with the locals. Therefore, the female soldiers are the only game in town and are treated like queens regardless of how unattractive they may be. With the ratio of males to females above 10:1, the women have guys falling all over them.

The soldiers are bored and have limited R&R. Sex is going to happen. For any female not to be on some type of long term birth control is irresponsible. I don't advocate prison, but think unmarried women should be processed out of the Army for pregnancy

By that logic no soldier, male or female, should ever have intercourse. After all, if a Soldier fathers a child he can't be around to fulfill his duties to his country. Why don't you name the Bill and propose it to your Rep in DC? I look forward to seeing your response that says you agree nobody in the military should have intercourse. Short of getting "fixed" there is no contraception that is one hundred percent.

What this thread has shown so far is a lot of people really hate women.

First off. All male soldiers who get a female pregnant should have their pay garnished to pay for the child. They can have intercourse, as can female soldiers. But if a pregnancy results, both should be held responsible.
The number of unmarried female soldiers getting pregnant is not due to the statistical failure rate of birth control. They are either stupid or are intentionally getting pregnant.
It has nothing to do with hating women. It is an acknowledgement that all soldiers have a responsibility to their country and to their unit. When they let down their country and their unit because of irresponsible choices they should be accountable.
And this is from one of the most liberal posters on this board.

Not a bad attempt to dodge, but it was still a dodge. It takes much more than a cut of someone's paycheck to care for a child. Apparently you are okay with soldiers fathering children and then leaving them but that is not acceptable for women. That is an unabashed double standard.

I did not see anyone say it is not acceptable for women, just irresponsible on both sides of the pregnancy. I have never been in the service but I know that when u are in the service they OWN you by your own choice. Responsibility is yours, whether you are man or a woman, to be available when needed or called upon. If you are not available then there are consequences. Simple.... Too simple maybe for some that like to complicate things.

Are you trying to get in JD's pants.

By joining the military, you put your obligation to the armed forces and these united states above and before ANYTHING else. If you're not prepared to do that, don't sign up. She was not conscripted. she chose to incur an obligation to put her duty before anything and everything else when she was called upon. She chose to have a child. She chose her child over her duty. Discharge her and give her no benefits. She failed to meet the obligation to which she agreed.

Since you're too stupid the have got it the first time, I thought repetition might help hammer it through that thick skull of yours into whatever brain there might be inside.

All you are doing is ignoring the facts of the situation and pretending she did absolutely nothing to fulfill her obligations. When you respond to the available information please let me know.

I also heard from a friend that served in Iraq that prostitution is common primary income for female soldiers because of the ratio. I said primary because they make more from one evening than the whole month worth of military pay. The "Queen for a year" statement seems close to the truth from stories he told me.

This is not an anti-feminist rant.

She had an obligation to the U.S. military.

She has failed to meet her obligations, so she must go back into the cold, cruel world of recession.

This is the pattern that makes it silly to even keep discussing the topic. You are once again ignoring the fact she had a FCP in place and the military approved that FCP. You people are acting like she didn't do a damn thing to prepare for her deployment.

Should unmarried fathers be processed out of the military?

No

Is it fair? No

Unfortunately, women are the ones who get pregnant. In a perfect world we should have no pregnancies from unmarried couples. A soldiers responsibility is to remain fully capable to support his or her unit. If the soldier engages in voluntary activities (yes I mean sex) that makes them unable to support their unit, they should not be rewarded.
The way things work, a womans pregnancy makes her more unable to support her role as a soldier than it does for a man. Its not fair, but women should be aware of that before they enlist.

Thank you for admitting the double standard. I can respect the honesty even if I find the double standard itself quite archaic and horrid.

There is a double standard. Nobody ever said life is fair. Women get pregnant. Unmarried pregnant women have a responsibility to give the child up or raise it themselves. If they are soldiers then that means they are not able to fulfill the responsibility they signed up for.
Women know they can get pregnant. They also understand the implications and impact on their role as a soldier.

I don't see a double standard personally because if the mother of a child took off on a father and he was left hanging with his dick in the wind he would get the exact same treatment.

The double standard is RW's position that unmarried mothers should be processed out of the military but not unmarried fathers.

I can't see a female soldier openly engaging in prostitution for money. Word would get out and she would go to military prison. It is more subtle. Gifts, guys volunteering to do your duties. I think for most, it more likely they are women who were not exactly prom queen material at home who now have guys falling all over them.

I find it hard to believe too but this comes from a presently active reserve Sgt.

Do you have a better defense for your position? Only asking because I want to make sure I am adequately informed about the reasons for your position before I respond.

Word getting out and proving it are two completely different things. Plus, there is an upside to having that role being played in long term deployments. That's why the military doesn't enforce it as much as they could.

"Queen for a year" is a good title and fairly representative of the lady soldiers in South Korea. A couple were prostitutes with a clientele of Korean business men. I knew one who came back as a civilian on 90-day visas, had a regular place in the ville, and served a wonderful dinner and tea for me and several other married men with no hanky or panky. She wasn't beautiful, but she was tall, slender, blonde, and the little Korea dudes went nuts for her. The last I heard she owned a good part of Alabama!

If they fail to meet their obligation when it's time to deploy, yes.

Sounds like dating...

Remind me why short-term relationships ('prostitution') are illegal again.
