Most of that money is spent in the U.S. for defense purposes. Having Israel as an ally is like having 10 Divisions in the Middle East. Israel is our first line of defense. People rail against Israel and they have no conception of the overall picture.

I'm aware of what most of the Israeli money goes to. Israel is a big boy and they can provide their own military defense. As I said, they know we will come to their aid if they are attacked. I assure you they will not break their alliance with us if we stopped. We don't need to keep sending them money we don't have and the only reason why the middle east has become a threat to the United States is because we've been fucking in their affairs for 100 years. How about we mind our fucking business for once and let them slaughter each other like they've been doing for thousands of years over there.

I want to be clear and say that I personally want to end all foreign aid at least until we get our debt under control. That being said, I think people on the left see a difference because Israel is very successful and fully capable of sustaining itself while many of those other countries are in very rough shape.

While I agree with the general sentiment (and the idea that we need to end most foreign 'aid' expenditures) I think it is a misstatement to say that we are sending that money for their defense. We use Israel as an ally because they are able to do thing that we really are not able to do politically. We can leverage a lot of influence over there through Israel in general and use their existence as a threat to the other ME nations.

Weather or not this is a good policy for the US is of course open to debate. I don't really think we have received even close to the value of what we spend over there but it is apparent that most disagree.
