University of Michigan abruptly closes DEI offices and ends strategic plan to promote diversity

That’s what leftists do. They go to the extreme and accuse people of things they never said, or thought. They have no other way to win the debate other than argue against a point their opponent never made.

For example: I said that I am opposed to having different admission standards based on race, and that skin color should be irrelevant in the admissions decision, and same thing - a leftist said I don’t want blacks to go to college.
Oh absolutely. That or violence. They are by far more more violent to innocent people than conservatives.

"University of Michigan abruptly closes DEI offices and ends strategic plan to promote diversity

A decade after taking the lead on matters of diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, at the university level, the University of Michigan announced Thursday it will cease all formal efforts in that regard.

In an email sent to faculty, staff and the university community, officials said they were closing U of M’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Office for Health Equity and Inclusion, while also halting its DEI 2.0 Strategic Plan

The changes, which are effective immediately, come in the wake of executive orders from President Donald Trump ending all DEI “mandates, policies, programs, preferences, and activities” in the federal government, and forbidding federal contractors from considering “race, color, sex, sexual preference, religion, or national origin” in employment, procurement, and contracting practices."

Holy screaming green-haired Karens!! This is going to unhinge the Leftists at U of M. :auiqs.jpg:
I actually have nothing against having diversity BUT diversity should not be achieved by discrimination and that's exactly what it is under democrats.

You think no blacks can get into college on their own merits?

I disagree. The number might dip some. But there will be some. And they will be the ones that actually BELONG there. So, that's a good thing.

Yea but the offspring of alumni and donors will still get special treatment

So taking that special treatment, and giving it to someone else is the answer.
Of course you think that.
It is always acceptable to lower the bar for offspring of the rich and famous.

But give a minority kid a break and Conservatives are outraged about not being fair

Yea but the offspring of alumni and donors will still get special treatment
And that would include the offspring of black alumni and donors who got in via AA 30 and 40 years ago.

The people left out are regular white middle class kids, with no legacy of “diversity” advantages:

1. Children of Black and white alumni or donors: advantage
2. Middle class Blacks with no legacy or wealthy parents: advantage
3. Middle class whites with no legacy or wealthy parents: tough shit

Nice rewrite.
No matter - it is removing a privilege one person had, and giving it to someone else - and thinking that is fair.
Why not remove all of the privileges and special treatment?

Why do universities want a diverse student body?
Beyond offering opportunities to those who are underrepresented they look at the university experience.

A class full of privileged white children who look at society from the standpoint of someone who has been given everything cannot objectively address our society.

Having students in a university who have experienced racism, growing up in poverty, have a middle class work ethic makes for a better university.

Lots of problem, and typical of emotional based liberal thinking.
1) "Class full of privileged white children" - it is inherently racist to think this. That those kids are privileged and insinuating they don't deserve what they have and where they are.
2) Thinking these kids are incapable of understanding others.
3) Having students in a university...." - No Having students who have achieved academic success despite these things is good for a better university.

And - there are unbelievably high number of grants for poorer kids. You ever go to a high school scholarship night??? At minimum 3/4 is based on income.

Thinking these kids are incapable of understanding others.
These wealthy kids have different life experiences
Their views are based on privilege with little understanding of why poor people struggle and what their challenges are

Universities are not full of wealthy white kids.
That is absurd. They are there, but not the majority. Not since the 70s at least

Do you think Universities diversified out of the goodness of their heart?
NO, that would be what you say, DEI, not what I said. That would be "goodness of their heart".

They diversified because the government started Pell grants and others. and took over student loans. And began throwing out loans like candy in a parade. As well as the grants.
That created an entire industry of colleges that only exist because of so much government free money. Despite - the percentage of failed students and dropouts catapulted.
There are universities, if that is what you want to call them, that have a student body with over 90% receiving government money - with a graduation rate less than 5%. And yet - the government money not only keeps flowing - but increasing.
THAT - is liberalism 101.
Absolutely refusing to acknowledge failed policies, no matter how bad they fail. They don't just keep supporting them - they double/triple down on it because to say it failed - is to say they failed.

Yea but the offspring of alumni and donors will still get special treatment

Some blacks will get in that way. But far more of the blacks that get in now, will actually deserve it.

So, it's a good thing. It is a step in the right direction.
