Universal Healthcare question for everyone

Lol .. no. There's profit in curing human misery. Unless you're in government. The goal there is different.

Not at all.

Let's review why we have a problem. You know, why all the Insurance CEO's have scrubbed their LinkedIn profiles.

Insurance companies like to collect premiums and will fight like hell to not pay them out. They can pay their CEO's Nine-figure salaries. They can pay huge dividends to stockholders.

The health care market is broken because it's been regulated into dysfunction by unscrupulous leaders who want to state control of health care. Classic story: government breaks shit, and then insists that only they can fix it.

Bullshit. It has nothing to do with regulations and all to do with corporate greed.

It has nothing to do with regulations and all to do with corporate greed.
It's both. The regulations are driven by corporate greed (and Congressional lust for power). The corps collude with government to protect themselves from the market.

School education is free, if you leave without doing A Levels I think at 16, college is free for 2 years till aged 18 or 19. Then you can pay for as many colleges as you want to do.

If you go go to university, in England Wales, you pay -

Tuition fees for the 2025/2026 academic year in England are as follows:
  • Full-time: £9,535 per year
  • Part-time: £7,145 per year
  • Accelerated: £11,440 per year
These fees are the first increase since 2017, and are in line with inflation.

I think Scotland is mainly free, to about £1,800, and some you have to pay for like Law. The Scottish government pays it. Different kettle of fish if they went independent, that'll be a wake up call for them.

A little while back, the government had to include and show outstanding students loans as national debt.

Okay, simple solution.
Loan forgiveness.

Then we do it the right way.

Problem solved.
So we punish those who didn’t take on debt or chose to repay it? Hard pass. You’re always looking for freebies. And what then? Free education? You’re such a socialist

Remember when the states paid for higher education so BOOMERS could work a part time job and go? Eckridge Farm remembers.

Because health care is a "right".
Let's get the terms clear.
Let's speak correct and proper English on this topic and avoid the generic and generalized, inaccurate terms; for a start.

Health Care = Taking care of your personal health by living a healthy lifestyle;
a. - Plenty of proper rest, nutritious diet (eating habits), plenty of exercise, avoid risky behaviors, ...
b. - Avoid unhealthy habits and activities; i.e. don't smoke or use tobacco(nicotine), avoid or consume very little alcohol, don't use controlled substances ~ drugs, ....
c. - get regular medical and dental check-ups, follow doctors advice on caring for you health and treatments, employ reasonable and effective preventative measures for any unusual or unhealthy conditions/predispositions you(your body) have, ....

Medical Care = What one seeks when personal care of health (Health Care) hasn't been enough. Such as in case of injury, sickness/illness, or other effects on your health outside of your prevention or care.

Medical Insurance = What many have, or want to have, to help cover the expenses of Medical Care. Usually this is for non routine items, not such as check-ups or some testing, but for more extreme conditions/situations. General rule of thumb is the more you want covered by your insurance, the more it will cost YOU.

Most of us don't expect, or want to pay the premium costs for auto insurance that covers; oil changes, tune-ups, new tires, etc. (~ or such for another person's vehicle). Such will often cost more than paying for same out of pocket. Similar should apply in medical insurance.
..............
So the bottom line(s) here are;

1. Care of your personal health is your responsibility! The only "right" you have is that which you provide per above definitions.

2. Medical Care is also a personal choice matter, especially when you can chose which doctor, dentist, chiropractor, etc. you want to treat you. If you take proper care of your health, you shouldn't need much "medical care" and what you do is your responsibility, especially if you didn't engage adequate and/or proper care of your health.

3. Medical Insurance is also a personal responsibility since like most forms of insurance, your situation, actions, and risk taking should determine your premium costs/rates, limits of coverage, etc.

So the question that matters boils down to this;

How much should your fellow citizens be required to pay your medical costs, especially if such are incurred by your own actions, life style etc. ???

Example, just because YOU didn't have a nutritious diet, over-ate(=over-weight), don't exercise, smoke tobacco, drink alcohol, take drugs, rock climb or do other risky/dangerous activities, have risky sex, etc.; ~ Just because YOU didn't take care of your health, why am I and your fellow citizens responsible for YOUR medical costs related to these consequences when you exercised your "right" to live unhealthy and dangerously ????

I'm really curious how you justify having a "right" to have me pay for your mistakes ???!!!:confused::mad:

Not necessarily. We would have to institute other reforms also. Such as malpractice reforms. Then their costs go down also.

Of course since this country runs strictly on greed it will never happen.
This country runs on profit, the opposite of loss(bankruptcy).
Cover costs and gain a bit more for growth and/or contingencies(cushion).

I'd did the Open University (OU) route. Different courses have different credit points and classed as full-time or part-time. Once you achieve enough credits, you obtain your degree.

There's quite a few billionaires that never bothered with college and university, Richard Branson as an example.

One thing is for sure, I wouldn't pay America's fees!!

We do see people flocking to Mexico and other Central American countries for "medical tourism"...Where the out-of-pocket costs, airfare, and accommodations are less than having the services done in Murica.
We also see Canadians(and others from countries with socialized medicine) flocking here for medical care they need now rather than six months to a year from now (typical waiting times I've been told by such) ~ when their condition might be worse, or fatal. Those who can afford such and/or have additional health/medical insurance that is.

Oh, I know that too.

As outrageously expensive that it is here, you can still get service in a timely manner.

I was at Gettysburg one time and ran into a guy from UK.
We started talking and I asked about Universal Healthcare. He told me how he had open heart surgery the year before and that it was quickly approved. He showed up at the hospital, showed his ID card, had the procedure and never got a bill.

I told him how my wife had a minor heart procedure and we received a stack of bills 3/4 inch thick, had to go back and forth between the doctors and insurance for months and we ended up paying $12,000 out of pocket.

Yes, I would like universal healthcare
Major reason why the UK has over twice the Debt to GDP as in the USA and has nearly no military defense of it's own ~ requires Uncle Sam to protect them.

We do? Where? Fox News?
Parking lots for clinics and hospital here in my area; within 20 miles of the border.
My late 'step-father-in-law' husband to my wife's late mother. He was a Canadian citizen by milked more out of our Medicare than Canada's.
Anecdotes from his Canadian relatives who came down to grab what they could of "his" estate from my mother-in-law.
Canadians I've known or talked to when they are down here to shop; because of limited selections and higher prices in Canada.
ETC. ......
