Disney can make their own characters. They bought the old ones
The rest is just junk
There is no money in comics relative to the movies, TV shows, and video games
And new characters have no value. It will take generations to make them as profitable as something like spiderman.
You are missing the main point I was making on the Disney/comic book point. They hired people who didn't even like comics. No experience in the field.
The stories were horrible, and how they drew them was ... Like they learned no lessons from previous artists, both writers and visual artists, within the field. It's almost like they WANTED it to fail... Either that or they have no clue who their customers are.
OR... They were making moves based on politics.
I don't know which one it is. I freely admit that.
