I have always though a US alliance with Russia could never happen. Today, Trump considers China our greatest enemy, followed by North Korea, and Trump has clearly stated his feeling about NATO and the EU.

Putin has never been comfortable with having the two potentially largest land armies in the world on Russian borders. China with 2 million and NATO with 3.5 million. While Russia and China were in lock step, ideologically in the 20th century today that no longer exists. While Putin seeks to build a Russian empire, China seeks to build an global economic empire.

Such an alliance seems unlikely, but there are circumstances under which Trump might consider such an alliance. Some potential scenarios could include:

  1. Economic Competition: If Trump perceives China and Europe as threats to American economic dominance—through trade imbalances, technology competition, or regulation of U.S. companies—he might view a strategic relationship with Russia as a counterbalance.
  2. Shared Interests with Russia: If there’s overlap in U.S. and Russian interests—such as curbing China's global influence or disrupting the European Union’s economic cohesion—Trump might see value in cooperation.
  3. Nationalist/Anti-Globalist Ideology: Trump has often leaned toward nationalist and anti-globalist rhetoric. If Russia supports a similar worldview (e.g., opposing supranational bodies like the EU or NATO), an alliance could serve mutual ideological goals.
  4. Personal Diplomacy: Trump has shown a preference for strongman leaders and personal diplomacy. If he believes he can secure favorable terms through a personal relationship with Putin, he might pursue such a realignment.
That said, aligning with Russia against traditional allies like Europe would be extremely controversial, both domestically and internationally. It would face strong opposition from Congress, U.S. allies, and parts of the national security establishment. However, Trump has never been bothered by controversy.

Thoughts?

Under what conditions, even a dung bettle knows the answer to such an idiotic premise.

Trump would untite with Russia against the democrats and China union because those are the conditions the democrats created and dictate.

You have a 6 year olds grasp of global alignments.

And they'll continue to talk $hit and depend upon us for years even if they DO actually retool and re-arm on their own.

It's going to take them at least several years to get their $hit together so that they're more self-sufficient with Defense.

Looks like some of those Euros are gonna have to retire a bit later and work harder and longer and man-up on re-arming.

Not to mention having to pause or close-down some of their socialist programming so that they can afford pop-guns again.

Under what conditions would the US military blow his ass away?

And Trump and Putin hate NATO with a passion.

I agree with you on PUTIN.

Trump, not so much. I am maga, I don't HATE nato, I just realize that it has been fucked up possibly beyond saving.

That is the reality of our position. YOu need to lie about that because you have been told to NOT engage in real discussion with the enemy.

At the bare minimum.

flop can type lies, but we know the truth. Sucks to be a toxic democrat, huh?

Secretary General thanks President Trump for his commitment to NATO

Mr. Stoltenberg highlighted rising defence investment across European Allies and Canada, amounting to more than $100 billion extra in recent years, adding that Allies are determined to keep up the momentum.

I think NATO without the US is a lot stronger than you might think. With the US, Russia is no match with NATO. Without the US, NATO could still come out on top but it would be a hard win.
