Aren't they a Catholic charity system of hospitals that spent almost 300 million in charity care? How does a non profit charity hospital make a profit when one of their main functions is to give away free care to people in need? It appears the numbers you are providing do not include the charitable donations that are used to cover the loss's you are listing. Overall, the system seems to be doing fine as it continues to expand it's facilities and services.

The sources you are using do not address the points or questions I have suggested. They are not meant to address them. They simple give numbers related to funds spent vs funds collected for services. The link I provided does not reflect the overall loss you are implying. I am suggesting that other funds, specifically charitable donations, covered the loss you are showing. Mercy has been in operation long enough to probably be pretty good at projecting allowable charitable expenses from hospital to hospital, facility to facility according to available donated funds.

That "CHART" shows "DISCOUNTS"! Meaning the hospitals don't get as much revenue from those patients that qualify under Federal Poverty Level guidelines.
