Switch the players around and imagine the US was surrounded by The East. What would America do? The exact same thing Russia is doing today.

The difference is the EU and US could DESTROY Russia in about 10 minutes. Russia couldn't help Syria, couldn't do anything in the Armenia/Azerbaijan conflict. It's so weak right now, everything is in the Ukraine.

I'm presenting an analogous historical parallel that indeed answers your question succinctly.

We told the Soviets exactly what we would do if they aligned with a country on our border... then we did exactly what we said we'd do.

And we saw it as a great victory.

When Bush the Lesser proclaimed in 2008 that Ukraine and Georgia would be fast tracked into NATO... Russia told us exactly what they were going to do.

And then they did it.

They tried to go about it without bloodshed... but WE instigated the overthrow of the elected Ukrainian government..twice.

I don't condone the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, but I can understand why they did it. If we were in their shoes, I don't think we would have done anything different.

We like to think of ourselves as "the Good Guys". But I'm not sure we've been the good guys in Iraq and Libya and Syria. I think we've been working all this time to destroy Russia, no matter how many people we have to kill to do it.

But what right did we have to meddle in the affairs of a sovereign country other than it was on our border and we wanted to keep our enemy out of there.

Good point but Ciuba already was the enemy of the US. The alignment with the USSR showed that.

Regardless of how the MSM spins things, Russia continues to expand west and Ukraine (with enormous help from NATO) can't stop them and turn them back. That is reality without the political spin. If you neo-leftists would just pause your irrational obsession with Trump for just one minute and reflect with critical thinking, you would see that this proxy war didn't achieve it's objectives and Ukraine is being destroyed. No matter how much money NATO throws at Ukraine, it can't win without entering directly. Smart people cut their losses, idiots go on hoping it will somehow damage Trump. If you were talking about Biden I'd agree whole heartedly, but Trump has given the Ukes the MEANS to defend themselves. Along with the Euros of course, and now Putin KNOWS that the supply of arms to the UKES is going to continue in sufficient quantity to make Russia bleed. Also from what I can gather the Spring/Summer and now nearly fall offensives have produced sweet FA for the Russkies in any tangible returns. Putes knows that it's FO time, and he doesn't want it!!
