As a general proposition, appeals courts do not review the fact-finder's (jury's) conclusions of fact in the case. All they look at is whether there were any errors by the judge during the trial phase.

So they would not base their ruling on how ridiculous (literally, incredible) the underlying accusation was.

This is not surprising, even though the whole case is a large, stinking pile of offal.
