I mentioned the mistake early in the thread. I didn't bother the mods, but I also don't question their judgement for moving the thread.

Happy Holidays to all!

How in the world is that post "fake news?"

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving, Unkotare! Unless your political and/or religious beliefs makes make that holiday offensive to you, in which case, I wish you a good week off from teaching.

Who is offended by Thanksgiving?
Some are. I did not want to offend you if you were one of them, when I meant sincere good wishes.

When the Pilgrims arrived on the Mayflower in 1620, they didn’t bring thanks. They didn’t even give thanks. Instead, they brought racist genocide and gave nothing

Mac and cheese is Unnecessary on the thanksgiving day menu. Stuffing, corn, and mashed potatoes are enough carbs. Just because it’s thanksgiving you don’t have to overdo it.

I know some people have a problem with Columbus day, but Thanksgiving is a pretty non-denominational American holiday. Family, food, football, what’s not to love?

I guess I'm wondering because by unexpected circumstances, I have the honor of hosting most of my adult offspring and several of their friends. I love the offspring, and I like anyone who is a good friend to my kids.

At least one is very left, and I suspect two others are - being a sister who used to be a mister, and their girlfriend. The prayer is non-negotiable, no matter who it offends. (I don't know that anyone will be). But I'm wondering if I should also include a land acknowledgement, maybe "bless the original inhabitants who roamed the land on which we sit," something like that.

Would they think me sarcastic?

On Tuesday, my school held an annual event where students, teachers, and alumni run a race around the campus (the campus is pretty huge). Some of the teachers (not me though) dressed up like turkeys, Pilgrims, and various characters. It was a fun day sending the students off for the holiday.

Hard to imagine anyone having a problem with a blessing, whether they are of faith or not.

Years ago, my brother and I lived right around the corner from a pretty hardcore biker bar where on Sundays they would dig a pit behind the bar, line it with banana leaves and coal and bury a whole pig for hours and hours. So good. We both eventually moved away, and the bar closed, but good memories.

I'm surprised at how many of my students say they don't eat turkey on Thanksgiving - or at all. I love me some turkey.
Turkey is delicious if done right (properly marinated; proper roast time; proper roast temperature). But my favorite is deep fried turkey. However, I'm more of a beef lover and like roast beef, prime rib, or just a good, thick steak. My favorite, traditional Thanksgiving foods are pumpkin pie & well prepared stuffing. It's also hard to beat mashed potatoes and gravy. All right ... I gotta go shopping now.

They did. It was a rough spot; lots of tats, few teeth, suspicious shapes under coats or shirts, not a weekend went by when the police didn't visit at least once. The regulars got a kick out of the fact that my brother would turn up after work in his expensive suit among a tough crowd, but he fit right in. Good folks, for the most part and they knew how to cook a pig.
