Turkey Talk

There is no more succulent turkey than one that is deep fried, the meat is tender and moist, and it takes very little time to cook it this way.

If you don't kill yourself.

Alternatively, every barbeque joint here is offering to sell you smoked turkey dinner orders for your meal. If I were doing turkey, I'd do that.

We have about 15 people coming, and some but not everyone likes turkey, so I got a 9 lb turkey and 7 lb ham and will make both, along with the usual sides.

I make stuffing both inside the bird and in the oven since that goes fast. We will have corn bread and flaky rolls since people are split on that too.

My daughter likes baking and will make a maple caramel walnut pie. She also has this killer mashed potatoes recipe that combines chunky and smooth. She blends some of the potatoes and mixes that in with the hand-mashed, then adds roasted garlic and cream to raise it to the next level.

One thing that will NOT be found at my table is that disgusting mushroom glop with the fried onions on top. Blech!

I'm surprised at how many of my students say they don't eat turkey on Thanksgiving - or at all. I love me some turkey.
The best part of Thanksgiving is the day after Thanksgiving.

Leftovers. Hot turkey sandwiches with gravy.

Can't be beat.

I enjoy adding cold canned whole cranberry jelly to it as well. My preference is for toasted pumpernickel bread.

I used to work with a girl who says that ham is what is cooked for her Thanksgiving Day meals. I do not remember why it isn't turkey.

God bless you and her always!!!

Most people don’t like mixing foods, but I enjoy cranberry sauce mashed together with mashed potatoes and stuffing.

The best part is the dessert. Pecan pie with whipped cream.

We often had just ham or both. Ham is so much better. Nonsmoked Turkey's only redeeming value is the dressing.

EDIT: The problem I have with the full holiday meal is I usually just make it to the mashed potatoes (gravy) and the wife's croissants with jelly. I could just eat that and be done.
