Trump’s Tomato Tarrif

Hey dumbass: I live in the NE and used to grow indeterminate tomatoes until early November under a tent. Put a plastic tent over the tomatoes on cold days and they will keep growing until there is a hard freeze.

I used to grow other veggies like chinese cabbage, brussel sprouts and stuff under a plastic tent well into December when there was snow in top of the plastic. Keep the frost and snow off of them and certain veggies will keep growing until the air temp dips well below freezing.
Very slowly, they will.

Good luck getting it built on a scale needed to supply the US with tomatoes.
Cheer up. You morons will be able to launch a tomato frenzy like you did with the silly egg frenzy.

And yous guys can whine about inflation of any kind just like before.
You mean the 40 year high spike in inflation that your cannibal Hunter unleashed on the US?

Well luckily we have people doing smaller parts even during tomato season. It’s not like we have one supplier all summer needing some massive operation to cover the winter months. It’s a lot of smaller family operations all year. And as long as they have an equal playing field against Mexico they can do it and prosper. And they can build the greenhouse’s they need and can make a living from.

You need to put more faith in our people and less in the government. The government will never produce and market a single tomato.

And up go tomato prices at the grocery stores.

Especially when it turns out there's no one left to harvest them.
Ah here comes the demklan bigot! Fearmongering because he won’t have cheap labor to exploit anymore because of the GOP liberating the minorities he’s been exploiting

Who cares what you grew. US commercial tomatoes are absolute shit.

True that US commercial crops are absolute shit, because they are in essence mass produced and use plenty of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and so are imported crops......the farther they have to travel, the greener they're picked, then gassed and waxed for a pretty gloss. But they taste bland and watered down, just because they grow bland and tasteless tomato varieties. Tomatoes are supposed to be an acidic fruit, and that high acid level is where that tomato tang comes in. Too many people and commercial growers have turned to less acidic and more 'sweet' varieties

Join the 'buy local' movement and keep the small US farms producing. The more local your produce, the better flavor and nutrients they are.

And if you want a real burst in your mouth when you take a bite of a tomato........grow your own, even if it's in a large pot with soil on the acidic side of the ph level

I can’t take a publication seriously who starts with farmers facing new tariffs, farmers in the US aren’t facing any new tariffs, the ones they are dealing with have always been there from other countries. The new ones are leveling the playing field.
Other nations have raised tariffs to retaliate. Previously non-tariffed crops are now facing them thanks to you blob.

PS: Nobody takes you seriously.

Actually from a dollar or so up to around 3 now.

Those prices are no different than here in Wa and I've seen loose tomatoes cost even more per pound. But if I were to buy any of those, I'd go with the Heirloom for $1.53, as I've rarely seen heirlooms for sale in a grocery store. Plus they are just better all around.

But the other day when I was at the store, they had Roma tomatoes for .78lb, though slicers (beefsteak) were closer to $2lb

I pity the people who are "forced to eat shitty tomatoes" during this time of year. I jar about 90 qts. a year and eat tomatoe sandwiches almost every day in August. This place is lousy with great tomatoes right now.
