That's a stupid idea. All of this crap started out with Clinton and his NAFTA. When Ross Perot was running against him, he warned about it. He said that if Clinton got elected and had his way, you would hear a huge sucking sound as jobs left the U.S. Which is just what happened. The U.S. started sending jobs to low wage countries. Such as China. The more patriotic companies here in the U.S. had to do the same anyway just to compete.

I heard of one employee who worked for an American manufacturer tell his story. One that I am sure was repeated MANY times. That manufacturer and no doubt many others actually boxed up and sent to places like China the manufacturing machines they used to make whatever. The final duty of the employee I spoke of said he had to go to whatever country and show them how to use our manufacturing machinery to make whatever it was that they made here.

Does anybody think that those tariffs are going to cause those countries to send our factory equipment back to us? I doubt it. To make America what it once was when it comes to manufacturing what we used to here, we are basically going to have to start from scratch. That will take MANY years. I'm still waiting for the tax cuts Reagan gave to the wealthy to "trickle down" to me. Who knows how many decades that will take. But I don't want to wait around. This person had the answer. What the U.S. needs to do is listen to it.

NAFTA WAS NEGOTIATED BY President George H W. Bush, with Canada and Mexico. All three countries signed the deal, at the very end of his presidency. Clinton promised he would go through with the President Bush NAFTA trade agreement if he were elected and get the Senate to approve it. Republicans were for the trade agreement but the Democrats were against the deal as it stood, so president Clinton changed several parts of the trade deal to make it more palatable for Democrats to pass and their constituents in Union's to support..... If memory serves me....

Years ago our old worn out stamping automotive related machinery was sold and shipped to China. They were shown how to set up and re-produce parts. The Chinese were able to sell some of that crap to the US and other countries. Then they moved their old industries to a more new modern part of China and now produce some quality goods.

And? Bush was a dolt.

Pat Buchanan warned us about NAFTA and the WTO, and allowing China in the WTO.

It'll take bout 5 years to a decade to set up some factories here....if it's worth it financially....the cost to move or buy new equipment to put in U.S. factories built, may cost them more than the tariffs are costing them, plus the higher labor costs.

In a long term goal and plan, they may be able to come back if they build a new automated or A/I driven assembly line, that needs only a handful of tech workers to handle the automation or computers.

There are some areas of business that should never had been allowed to outsource that are critical to our homeland security, advancements, and even health....like pharmaceuticals....plans to just bring those back right now, needs to be done....even if tax payers have to fund some of their return and set up, here....imho.

I do not think tariffs will solve our issue with intellectual property thefts in China....don't know how to solve that problem....if I were a business with something I didn't want them to steal and knock off, I simply would not manufacture it there in China and manufacture it at home....it has to cost them millions or even in the long term billions in the intellectual property theft, that they would not face here...

Thank you for the reality check.

Not that they will listen.... But thank you.

The US needed a plan. Like Germany had a plan to do high end manufacturing. You need to decide what you are and what you want to be.

The US has never done this. So the US lost its manufacturing simply because it wasn't realistic to have low end manufacturing in a country with high wages.

Trump wants manufacturing back and the ONLY way to get this is to make the US POORER.

Yeah, to compete you need people earning very little money so those goods cost very little.

So, to make rich people richer, you need to make the poor people poorer.

Plenty of blame to go around.....It was bipartisan fuck-up of epic proportions.....A pox on both their houses.

NAFTA’s birth was bi-partisan—conceived by Ronald Reagan, negotiated by George Bush I, and pushed through the US Congress by Bill Clinton in alliance with Congressional Republicans and corporate lobbyists.

Now China is working with South Asian countries to escape the Trump tariffs. That would be Vietnam, Cambodia, and Maylasia. Losing any leverage whatsoever is Trump's fuckup.

Jannice, that you?

Polls show that 25% of workers in the US would leave their jobs for a factory job. I'm only surprised by how low that number really is.

parrots.webp

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is a free trade agreement that went into effect on July 1, 2020. It replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The USMCA aims to create more balanced trade, promote economic growth, and support high-paying jobs in North America.

Trump replaced nafta with usmca. So why are people still talking about nafta?

Every factory job brought back should be scrutized by the potus to ensure it pays at least double if not triple for the same product overseas.

Any tooling sent overseas 30 years ago has long since worn out.....Get a brain.

How about you get a brain. When a part wears out, you either repair it or replace it. In that way, machines are basically immortal. Though it is possible that the Chinese for instance figured out how to make better machines to do whatever.
But that is a different issue. The point is that much of that manufacturing equipment is no longer in this country. To make whatever was made with that factory equipment, we will first have to reconstruct that factory equipment here. For all the things to be made, that could take decades.

But even that isn't the biggest problem. The biggest problem is that the average hourly wage of an American worker is $28.60 per hour. The average hourly wage of a worker in China is $3.70 per hour. Obviously, our capitalism doesn't stand a snowflake's chance in hell against socialism. I posted something by FDR about it. Did you see it? If not, here it is again.

Actually, it was Reagan who started the whole thing out. Negotiations over it were initiated by Bush. But at the end of the day, it was the Clinton administration that signed it into law. After making some minor adjustments to it addressing labor and environmental concerns. Which apparently meant nothing to the Chinese or other third world countries.

Apparently there was more sent to China rather than old worn out stamping automotive related machinery. Because the Chinese send a LOT more than that to the U.S. that used to be made here.

Apparently I'm not going to watch random videos people post on here without explaining why they're posting it, why it has anything to do with your argument, etc etc.
