Trump's Tariffs To Bring Jobs back To The U.S.

Jannice, that you?

Polls show that 25% of workers in the US would leave their jobs for a factory job. I'm only surprised by how low that number really is.

No, I'm not Jannice. Next, I'm surprised that any worker wouldn't rather work at a factory. Because factory workers make more money. Unless you work for McDonald's in Denmark. For those over 18, they get $20.59 per hour. Along with 6 weeks paid vacation, maternity leave, etc.

The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is a free trade agreement that went into effect on July 1, 2020. It replaced the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The USMCA aims to create more balanced trade, promote economic growth, and support high-paying jobs in North America.

Trump replaced nafta with usmca. So why are people still talking about nafta?

Not that it really matters. But how does USMCA differ from NAFTA.

Apparently I'm not going to watch random videos people post on here without explaining why they're posting it, why it has anything to do with your argument, etc etc.

You said a lot of stuff in your reply in post #9. The video answers most of it. Also, it is only a couple minutes long. It won't kill you to watch it. Then go back and reread your reply in post #9. See for yourself how much of what FDR said applies to what you said

Who am I talking to, you or the video?

I guess the old saying it true. "You can lead a horse to water. But you can't make him drink."

Or the other old saying is true "when you want to make an argument, make the damn argument rather than relying on other people to make it for you".

That's a stupid idea. All of this crap started out with Clinton and his NAFTA. When Ross Perot was running against him, he warned about it. He said that if Clinton got elected and had his way, you would hear a huge sucking sound as jobs left the U.S. Which is just what happened. The U.S. started sending jobs to low wage countries. Such as China. The more patriotic companies here in the U.S. had to do the same anyway just to compete.

I heard of one employee who worked for an American manufacturer tell his story. One that I am sure was repeated MANY times. That manufacturer and no doubt many others actually boxed up and sent to places like China the manufacturing machines they used to make whatever. The final duty of the employee I spoke of said he had to go to whatever country and show them how to use our manufacturing machinery to make whatever it was that they made here.

Does anybody think that those tariffs are going to cause those countries to send our factory equipment back to us? I doubt it. To make America what it once was when it comes to manufacturing what we used to here, we are basically going to have to start from scratch. That will take MANY years. I'm still waiting for the tax cuts Reagan gave to the wealthy to "trickle down" to me. Who knows how many decades that will take. But I don't want to wait around. This person had the answer. What the U.S. needs to do is listen to it.

That FDR speech is pure socialism, he's basically saying we have the rights to equal outcomes instead of opportunity. Which had zip to do with tariffs as far as I can see. The OP was correct about one thing though, Trump's tariffs are a stupid idea that has never worked as advertised and both democrats and republicans have supported it. There might be a gain of manufacturing job numbers that will only last until the tariffs are repealed.

6 weeks paid vacation? Well heck we can't have that here because that's too much time off. We want tired out, stressed out working people. In other words Denmark knows about time off and increasing productivity.

You are right. What I wrote doesn't have a lot to do with tariffs. But if people were employed here, there wouldn't be quite so many imported products to put tariffs on. Next, most if not all of Europe has such a socialist system. (As well as other countries) Most have a free college education. At the very least their students don't have to go into debt up to their necks for a diploma. They also have universal health care etc. No doubt in those countries you will also find wealthy people. People who live far better than the average person does. Though I don't agree with absolutely everything in it, you should look up and watch the Michael Moore documentary, "Where to invade next." Also, I have a pretty good saying I heard to share with you. It is, "A capitalist is just a socialist suffering from the Stockholm Syndrome."

So rarely do I run across anybody with good sense like you. Everybody knows that you get better work out of people (or even animals) when they are treated well.

"But if people were employed here, there wouldn't be quite so many imported products to put tariffs on." Maybe. Depends on what those new employees are doing. The idea that tariffs will increase manufacturing jobs is unproven and IMHO unlikely.

And I'll just say this: every country that has free college education and universal health care also have much higher tax rates, and everybody pays it. All of them have a VAT (consumption) tax around 25% give or take. And the costs here of college and healthcare are ridiculously high for a variety of reasons. In America both are absolutely unaffordable unless you can convince people to pay a lot more in taxes.

And meaning no offense, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I watch a Michael Moore documentary.
