President Donald Trump became the first president in modern history to have more than half of Americans disapprove of his job performance after only eight days in office, according to a new poll.

The Gallup survey has tracked the approval rating of all presidents dating back to the administration of Harry Truman.

As of Saturday, Trump's approval rating was at 42 percent, while 51 percent of respondents said they disapproved of his performance as president so far.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 53% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Forty-seven percent (47%) disapprove.

The latest figures include 36% who Strongly Approve of the way Trump is performing and 37% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -1 (see trends).

Regular updates are posted Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update).

The president is expected to nominate a new U.S. Supreme Court justice as early as today. Most believe Trump will nominate justices who are strict constitutionalists. They are more divided as to whether his nominees will be too conservative or about right politically.​
