Trump's DC Occupation Costs 4 Times More Than It Would Take to House City's Entire Homeless Population

Believe it or not, street gangs do have rules. But here we see the opinion of a white man trying to justify a fascist maneuver by this president because he's doing it to mostly black people. What you have here are several mills from red states who believe they're stopping a war on our streets. These "soldiers" have been given permission from the commander-in-chief and chief to do whatever it takes, and if they commit a crime, he'll probably pardon them. So like I said, people being scared to leave their homes is not reducing crime. What Trump is doing is a crime being imposed upon US citizens
I would have justified it no matter who did it. It's long overdue.

I feel empathy for people who live in inner cities. I once saw a 60 Minutes episode where a classroom of children were asked if they knew someone who had been killed and almost every hand in the room was raised. That is a national disgrace. It should not be allowed to happen.

My empathy for others is not based on race, but on shared experience. I’ve lived in a similar situation, where I had to fear for my safety. I didn’t like it, and I wouldn’t do it again If I had to move to Tumbleweed, Oklahoma.

I now live in a reasonably safe neighborhood, but I still have my guns and my security system. I will not live in fear. I’d rather die first.

Who is afraid to leave their homes? Not the people happy they can walk the streets again.

Exactly!
Trump shouldn't reduce crime, because it mostly hurts black criminals.

You didn't check on the number of murders, robberies, rapes, etc.? You focused on trash pickup? That's sad.
thats what we see happening today.
Crime statistics take more time to collect.
Example is that DC homicides from 2023 to 2024 dropped 32 percent, and other violent and property crime dropped as well. But we dont know for this year, but whatever forces were in place for this year were also in 2023 to 2024.

Here's a hint, check the number of murders since the troops arrived. That's when to look at it.

Trump is not lowering crime. That's a fact. If this was about lowering crime there are places with higher crime than DC, and those crime continues in those places. People don't even want to go out to eat in DC now. Trump is killing business and tourism in DC.
Well, don't look now, but there's less crime in DC...lol

If you check history of the cities over at least several decades you will see that middle aged to elderly African Americans worry about their safety as number one priority. All age groups do. Seniors more than others. It is difficult situation in the inner-city areas.

Trump has said one of his goals in DC is to do something about the homeless population. The problem with thinking on the right is that they believe that the most punitive actions are solutions for problems. Oftentimes, their punitive "solutions" cost more and are less effective than the so-called soft liberal policies they say are the problem.

Trump's DC Occupation Costs 4 Times More Than It Would Take to House City's Entire Homeless Population

Last week, when Trump federalized Washington, DC's police force and deployed the National Guard to occupy its streets, one of his main orders was to "end vagrancy" by destroying homeless encampments and arresting and forcibly relocating the people taking shelter there.

But according to an investigation published on Wednesday by Hanna Homestead of the National Priorities Project, in collaboration with The Intercept, deploying the National Guard and "getting rid of the slums" is costing far more than it would cost to simply provide housing to every homeless person in the city.

Governors from six US states have sent troops to Washington to help Trump's effort, swelling the ranks to nearly 2,100 who will soon be on patrol.

According to previous reporting, National Guard deployments cost the US government $530 per guard member each day. Using that figure, Homestead estimated that it would cost just over $1.1 million.

She added that "the number of troops will likely continue to grow. And with no deadline for the DC deployment, those costs could add up for months or even years."

According to the most recent data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), there are about 5,600 people experiencing either sheltered and unsheltered homelessness in DC on a given night. Operating an affordable housing unit for each one of them, the data shows, costs about $45.44 per person, per day, on average in DC.

Providing affordable housing to every homeless person in DC would cost an estimated $255,166, which is 4.3 times less than the cost of Trump's military deployment.

Draconian measures cost draconian money. And we get told how we cannot force the government to spend to provide housing for the homeless. Yet the same people who declare how it's wasteful to spend money to provide housing to the homeless, but cheer the more costly use of troops to take them off the streets.

This is why you do not elect right-wing politicians if you want real solutions.
The cost of crime in DC is cheaper than deploying NG's ? The US government has spent over 20 trillion dollars of tax payer money on the War on Poverty. We still have poor people. So what is that magic money number that is going to end poverty in this country ?

That's easy, it's not a number, it's "MORE".

90% of the homicides in DC are young black men. How dare Trump try to stop the killing. How racist!!!

Total bullshit...
Housing irresponsible homeless people is never a predictable expense especially when they are drug addicts, thieves, rapists and murderers.

So you came up with some initial prices did you... you moron?

Housing is a permanent thing and in the long run it would cost tens of times more to do that than it would to solve the problem by cleaning up the crime directly. You don't house shit because when you do all of your effort turns to shit along with them meaning all the money spent would be completely wasted as is the Democrat way anyway.

Pumping money into law enforcement efforts in the long run saves money on enforcement, reduces the medical expenses that the homeless ply on the emergency rooms constantly and creates a more benevolent society conducive to productivity another unpredictable value that you think nothing about.

Do you ever have one critical thought? Even one?

Jo

You are wrong. Now I am not going to be arguing with amateurs who know nothing about these issues based on your feelings. It's costing a million dollars per day for the stunt we see in DC. It would be more efficient to do the things I suggested, which would actually reduce crime in the long run instead of this short-term waste of money.
