Take Canada for example. Of the 29,000 pounds of fentanyl seized in 2024, only 43 pounds were on the northern border. In other words the Canada drug inflow is a manufactured crisis, completely insignificant. So what does Canada do? They appoint a new "Fentanyl Chief" to appease Trump and get him to back down, but they are actually giving up nothing since it is a position to solve a fake problem. They completely played Trump, just as Putin has again and again. Did Trump convince Canada to change the tariff structure? Nope.

In the other direction, Canadians are very angry with USA so are boycotting products and changing travel plans. A lot of this has to do with Trump's repeated declarations that Canada should be a US state, which gain absolutely nothing for USA but costs billions in product and tourism revenue. Do you know who the #1 tourist traveler to USA is? Canada, and it isn't even close at 21 million arrivals. By comparison UK is 4 million and Germany 2 million.

So yes, it is a bad thing. Trump has won a pointless Fentanyl Czar, and will cost USA billions with pointless imperialistic rhetoric.

Absolutely not, and neither is ours. Canada is pulling out of their purchase of the F35's. It's been a total waste of taxpayer dollars to this point. We'll be looking to France and Great Britain for our future military purchases.

40% of Canadian travel to the USA has been cancelled. Stories of tourists being locked up for being "illegal aliens", with no access to phones or lawyers are spreading and discouraging Europeans from visiting as well.

"Closed borders" means no one is allowed in or out - think Soviet Russia in the 60's and 70's. Canadians spend BILLIONS in the USA every winter. Some of the Snowbirds I know, are selling their American properties, and staying home, or going to Europe.

You know, countries where visitors are WELCOMED.

The recent meeting of the G7, was a reset of the Western democracies to exclude the USA from future plans for world trade, and the Ukraine.

Trump falsely assumed that your trading partners would be so desperate to keep American markets that they would bend to his demands. Everybody jumped at the chance to renegotiate trade deals the last time he was in office because it had been DECADES, since these deals were written and they needed to be undated to reflect internet purchases and trade.

The USA had been reluctant to renegotiate any of these deals because they have been so profitable for American companies. Other first world nations provided free retraining for displaced manufacturing workers. The USA just dumped these workers into the job market of unskilled workers competing for minimum wage jobs.

Instead of modernizing education to give workers the skills they need for the 21st Century economy, Republicans are denying science, and ensuring public schools turn out good little straight white Christian nationalists, rather than employable workers today's corporations want and need.

That's why you're still imported tech workers from Eastern Europe and Asia.

Tariffs only work if you have the ability to produce those products in the USA. You only put tariff's on stuff being made in the USA, where American production exceeds current demand for imported goods.

There is NO American aluminum industry. The USA imports nearly 90% of all of the aluminum you currently use - mostly from Canada. You're neither protecting nor creating American jobs with this tariff. You are damaging US manufacturers who need aluminum cans for their beverages, or aluminum to manufacture their pots and pans.

The last time Trump slapped tariffs on steel and aluminum, the USA LOST 200,000 manufacturing jobs. Unless Trump is trying to destroy your export markets, steel and aluminum tariffs are a BAD IDEA.

I rarely object to your posts but I have a correction...

US does smelt Aluminium but it does it from Bauxite (which there is no major mine in US). about 860k tones a year, import about 2.6m Tones...
But 70%+ of Aluminium comes from recycled Aluminium.

This tariff will just be a tax on mainly un-recycled Aluminium. Trump has actually brought out a Green Tax to encourage recycling Aluminium.

I know that is hard to believe, now who is going to tell them.
