The problem isn't the nuclear standoff.
Anyone with two brain cells to click together knows that even if Kim delivers a dud, that counts as an attempted nuclear attack, and that attack deserves a response, one which would be the final chapter for Kim Jong-Un and much of his command and control, thus most of his military.
That is not the problem. Yes, our nuke dick is much bigger and much more potent than the DPRK.
That isn't the problem.
The problems are (A) the automatic and unstoppable response against Seoul, guaranteed 300 thousand or more vaporized in a matter of hours, by conventional DPRK weapons. Much more difficult to stop the portion of the North Korean army positioned minutes away from Seoul. You can't just drop a nuke on the DMZ. The problem is (B) Chinese response. The problem is (C) what do we do with the North Koreans who survive. now that we broke it, we gotta fix it. The problem is (D) Japan, which would also likely suffer massive casualties, if not massive civilian casualties, massive economic casualties. Neither South Korea or Japan are in much of a position to weather this sort of thing without plunging into severe economic catastrophe with global consequences.
You can engage in all manner of juvenile schoolyard braggadocio about whose nuke dick would be bigger but few on this forum have given much if any thought to the real world consequences of what amounts to a much bigger version of "Shock and Awe", with even bigger collateral damage, and an even larger insurgency problem post attack. Should we also send another Paul Bremer in there?
I hear Jared is eager to play the role.
It's cute and amusing to play war games in your mind but when the war is real, and nuclear, NOBODY HERE has ANY background in that kind of game.
If they did, or do, they would not be on USMB discussing it in a cavalier and chickenhawk manner.
And yeah, most of you making the most squawks about it ARE chickenhawks, because that is what chickenhawks do.
Real soldiers know that war is a serious thing with serious consequences.
And we haven't even touched on the consequences to this country if the little bastard actually DID manage to get a nuke to land here and detonate.
Knowing the proclivities of the Vulgar Talking Yam, I wouldn't put it past him to "just let one nuke hit Los Angeles", to "teach them a lesson".
A lesson which would have far reaching consequences for the future stability of this nation.
