The man accused of being a serial killer who targeted women on Long Island over the course of nearly two decades admitted to eight killings on April 8, according to reports.

New York architect Rex Heuermann, 62, was arrested in 2023 in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders, a case that had long stumped investigators and became the subject of a 2020 Netflix film.

Multiple sets of human remains were found in the area in 2010 and 2011, leading investigators to suspect a serial killer was responsible for the deaths. Officials said a key break in the case came more than a decade later when they matched DNA from a pizza Heuermann ate to a male hair found with the remains.

Heuermann initially pleaded not guilty to the murders of seven women whose remains were found in the area between 1993 and 2011. He changed his plea during a court appearance on April 8 and admitted to the gruesome killings, BBC and News 12 reported.

I don't think he acted alone. It's just the tip of the iceberg. A very credible escaped victim said it was 3 guys. One was Heuerman and another was former Suffolk County Police Chief James Burke.
