Didn’t buy a Ford or Dodge truck either.
YOU are missing the point.
How?
Moving auto parts production would require massive investment during a regime that blows in the wind.
Right, it brings back supply to the US...
Where did you find a truck made entirely in the USA?I bought a truck made in the USA.
My Toyota was. I even knew someone who worked at the plant in Texas.Where did you find a truck made entirely in the USA?
14. It is what it is.
LMAO!!! You don't really believe that, do you?My Toyota was. I even knew someone who worked at the plant in Texas.
Yes, there are Toyota plants in the USA. Everyone knows that.LMAO!!! You don't really believe that, do you?
It was assembled in the USA, maybe.
there are ford plants in America as well.Yes, there are Toyota plants in the USA. Everyone knows that.
Would be nice if “American” car companies actually built their cars in the US.
Yup.My Toyota was. I even knew someone who worked at the plant in Texas.
there are ford plants in America as well.
Those plants, especially the ones in Texass, shuffle the car and truck parts and assemblies back and forth over the border during the manufacturing process.
Ever your toyota.
Incidentally you do realize the profits from that toyota mostly go overseas, right?
Some key points here.
First, this was never about the Canadian border. I knew this from the beginning and even laughed at the assertion. Trump was looking for an immediate, path of least resistance as Canadian police use against their own citizens, the old "national security" excuse.
Now I assumed it might be just for negotiations of USMCA but then I realized that Trump figures he needs to raise funds from foreign nations importing into the U.S to address the massive debt America has, thus, any nation will be paying. He said so in Europe if anyone cared to actually listen, pay attention and read the tea leaves.
Any Canadian spooks on here pay attention to me screaming for a decade that the U.S MUST decrease their debt? Perhaps I was smart enough to realize that if America fails, not only does the West fail, but Canada will be forced to pay the price for the U.S being desperate if the risk of their debt overwhelms them. Perhaps...
Second, I kept hearing O'Leary say "read the signals not the words" which I felt was quite naive. The Canadian government and the province of Ontario spent billions more on the border, for what? To stop 4 or 5 clowns trying to sneak in? Maybe one dealer or two? Perhaps Canada felt they had an inroad through Homan, maybe even a greased palm or two. Trump is constantly playing chess and he has the most powerful pieces on the board.
Worse, it is a big deal that Americans are indifferent to Canada. We did this to ourselves over decades. We could have become more like an accountable Republic, instead, we remain the Constitutional Monarchy. Light on constitution, heavy on (unaccountable) monarchy.
They grossly underestimated Trump. In his wisdom he keeps his true thoughts close. It seemed clear to me he was going to hit Canada and Mexico. These tariffs, once on, will be difficult to replace and/or reduce, even for the next administration. Trump will basically say, "hey be happy you only pay 25%, this is a deal, otherwise we have to look at 50%".
Doug Ford was a tool from the beginning. A complete fool our of his league. Loudly acting like the covert cops he has funneled billions to, from the taxpayer and yelled "if Trump hits us with tariffs, we will cut off energy to Michigan"? Really? Your response to Trump tariffs isn't counter tariffs (which wont hurt America, we already know this) it is instead to go balls to the wall "war-like response"? He has G-d syndrome on false pretenses. Bullying weak citizens here isn't the same as going against Trump.
His authority of Ontario citizens is of no value when dealing with the U.S. He and his cop friends can bully the homeless and vulnerable, they are a flea on a dog when dealing with the U.S.
I am Canadian and I love what my country is SUPPOSED to be. What those men who died in the Second World War hoped our country might be one day. We have never achieved it.
My health not great, 30+ years stolen from me by the bullies and I can't help but say "I told you so". Since 2005 I warned Canada. Now the bullies, who like to smack around poor skinny kids and abuse them into their adulthood are now on the receiving end of a bigger, badder kid on the block in the form of Trump. It doesn't feel so good as they will now learn first hand.
Don't blame me, I'm just the Messenger. I guarantee you this though. For all of the intelligence of O'Leary and the Canadians who meet with Trump, I get Trumps approach better than most. It's a challenge, but at least I try to understand his position, his history and his intent. He's a Game Theorists and he has learned over time to keep his cards close and use his instincts. He's been talking about abuses of foreign nations for 40 years and tariffs were always in his playbook.
Canada could sure use all of the best minds we have pushed away for so many decades so that the S.I.C and their kids can play the role of a fake talented manager in a U.S corporation operating here.
My guess is he doesn't hit Canadian oil with a tariff, or hits it with a lower amount, say 10%. The auto industry will be investing in America now, Michigan is going to benefit I suspect.
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump says he will decide Thursday night whether to include oil in his tariff plan as he confirmed his intention to impose devastating duties on Canadian imports on Saturday.
"Because they send us oil, we'll see," Trump told reporters while signing executive actions in the Oval Office Thursday afternoon.
"It depends on what the price is. If the oil is properly priced, if they treat us properly — which they don't."
Trump initially claimed his 25 per cent tariff threat was in response to what he called the failure by Canada and Mexico to curb the illegal flow of people and drugs across the border.
His complaints have since expanded far beyond border security. On Thursday, Trump repeated his objections to trade deficits with both countries.
Lol!! Look at you, backing up!So being assembled in the USA with American workers isn’t good enough for you?
Good!
Let’s put tariffs on the parts as well!
Now you’re getting it!
Good. Then they will start making them in the US.Lol!! Look at you, backing up!
Hilarious!
And the tariffs are indeed on the parts as well, kid.
