Eliminating coal from the US interior will only ensure higher energy prices for the future regardless of cheap gas.

They are so stupid I'm surprised their hearts still beat. The law suits are being subsidized by dozens of Chinese owned shell companies that are dedicated to destroying US generation capabilities. Once they have created an atmosphere wherein the average citizen can no longer afford his/her electric bill they will monopolize the power distribution industry effectively conquering the US without a single military manuver.

Trump should have the DOI buy out the plant...install a modern stack scrubbing system and flood the market with non profit megawatts.

China is also building solar and wind power at a break neck pace with plans to ban the sale of internal combustion vehicles by 2040. What would you suggest China should use for electricity at this stage of their development? Keeping a coal plant open and spewing mercury into the environment for a couple hundred temporary jobs is a bad idea. Here in western Pa. we lost tens of thousands of steel jobs in a very short time and all is well. Better than well, we now have fish in our 3 rivers. On the other hand we have 3,000 miles of dead streams in Pa. and they died from acid mine drainage. We`re treating mine acid discharge coming from mines that closed in the 50s. Nobody with a measurable IQ thinks that there is a long term future for coal.

All the other partners decided to remove themselves due to the price of natural gas being cheaper, due to the EPA, under the previous administrations requirements for billions in improvements. Hydrocarbon combustion is similar for all fuels including Nat gas.

Yes until the EPA showed up textile mills dumped dye into rivers, drop forge Plants overheated the rivers and mining companies did not concern themselves with water tables.... And yet this nation was made by each of them. Clean stack technology burns with less total emissions than gas but has been driven into the darkness by misinformation campaigns while your Nat gas companies scalp the public with pipe transport fees you utter moron.

We`re still investing in the 20th century with our never ending highway construction. The Chinese have 6,000 miles of bullet train transportation while we have zero. They don`t have large reserves of natural gas so coal will have to supplement their hydro, solar and wind for the time being. They`re trying to move forward while we`re trying to force our automakers to give us cars that use more gas. People who live in glass houses....
