Trump releases seven-point health care reform plan

People can't write off their health insurance premiums if they can't afford to pay them in the first place.

HSA plans have two components: A high deductible health plan and another account to which you must contribute for use in paying the deductible. Combined, they're essentially the same cost as traditional health insurance premiums.

None of these "ideas" make it easier for people to afford or access critical preventive or diagnostic care, or prescription drugs.

There are too many people who don't understand how this works tossing out "ideas".
.
I beg to differ. As it currently stands most states only allow a couple insurance companies to operate within their borders. Essentially a monopoly state by state which railroads consumers into paying higher costs through lack of choices & competition.
Well, I'd love to see the projections on the savings.

Hard to speculate but I have never seen any product that didn't drop in cost due to added competition

None of those except repealing the individual mandate require the repeal of Obamacare

Why don't Republicans work to get those ideas included in obamacare?

.

Because ObamaCare is one giant piece of shit that doesn't work and is harming more people than it's helping.

I disagree. The ACA is poorly crafted, but it has some good ideas in it, the best being that American citizens should not suffer from a lack of needed health care, ban rejection based on pre-existing conditions, and that the states can organize statistical pools to lower individual health care costs.

The problem has been primarily in three facets of how the ACA was put together and implemented;
1. It was a unicentric piece of legislation whose authors happily ran the opposition out from having any role in putting it together. This allowed flaws to exist in it that could have easily been addressed had they listened to any of their opposition critics.
2. It was crafted to primarily benefit the health care insurance industry whose lobbyists were the primary participants in putting it together. This was likely meant to bring on the support of the health care insurance industry due to the onerous costs of not rejecting applicants due to pre-existing conditions.
3. The ACA removed cheaper alternatives, such as medical savings plans coupled with catastrophic medical plans. They regulated out lower cost alternatives and implaced broad sweeping one-size-fits-all kinds of standard that compel men, for example, to take pregnancy coverage.

We can salvage ACA and do America a better service by reforming it, or officially removing it, then making a second effort that is theoretically based on the best of the ACA and reforms it in a positive direction.

Who is it harming and in what manner is it harming them?
These statistics should show that the health care system in the USA needs some work.
New York, NY, June 16, 2014—Despite having the most expensive health care system, the United States ranks last overall among 11 industrialized countries on measures of health system quality, efficiency, access to care, equity, and healthy lives, according to a new Commonwealth Fund report. The other countries included in the study were Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand Norway, Sweden Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. While there is room for improvement in every country, the U.S. stands out for having the highest costs and lowest performance—the U.S. spent $8,508 per person on health care in 2011, compared with $3,406 in the United Kingdom, which ranked first overall.

What I really like is the emphasis on expanded Health Savings Accounts, and the shift in tax deductibility to individuals. Another excellent proposal is price transparency.

Congress must act. Our elected representatives in the House and Senate must:

1. Completely repeal Obamacare. Our elected representatives must eliminate the individual mandate. No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to.

2. Modify existing law that inhibits the sale of health insurance across state lines. As long as the plan purchased complies with state requirements, any vendor ought to be able to offer insurance in any state. By allowing full competition in this market, insurance costs will go down and consumer satisfaction will go up.

3. Allow individuals to fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns under the current tax system. Businesses are allowed to take these deductions so why wouldn’t Congress allow individuals the same exemptions? As we allow the free market to provide insurance coverage opportunities to companies and individuals, we must also make sure that no one slips through the cracks simply because they cannot afford insurance. We must review basic options for Medicaid and work with states to ensure that those who want healthcare coverage can have it.

4. Allow individuals to use Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Contributions into HSAs should be tax-free and should be allowed to accumulate. These accounts would become part of the estate of the individual and could be passed on to heirs without fear of any death penalty. These plans should be particularly attractive to young people who are healthy and can afford high-deductible insurance plans. These funds can be used by any member of a family without penalty. The flexibility and security provided by HSAs will be of great benefit to all who participate.

5. Require price transparency from all healthcare providers, especially doctors and healthcare organizations like clinics and hospitals. Individuals should be able to shop to find the best prices for procedures, exams or any other medical-related procedure.

6. Block-grant Medicaid to the states. Nearly every state already offers benefits beyond what is required in the current Medicaid structure. The state governments know their people best and can manage the administration of Medicaid far better without federal overhead. States will have the incentives to seek out and eliminate fraud, waste and abuse to preserve our precious resources.

7. Remove barriers to entry into free markets for drug providers that offer safe, reliable and cheaper products. Congress will need the courage to step away from the special interests and do what is right for America. Though the pharmaceutical industry is in the private sector, drug companies provide a public service. Allowing consumers access to imported, safe and dependable drugs from overseas will bring more options to consumers.

Because the Republicans have been trying to get Obamacare repealed since 2010 and have failed more than sixty times, so a repeal would seem a victory, which it would not be.

They keep on saying....we have to repeal Obamacare
But none of their proposals are prohibited under Obamacare

If you want tax breaks, more competition and expanded HSAs...just pass the legislation

Obamacare won't stop you

OK. Now I am understanding the need to repeal it first then recreate it and say the GOP did it.

PRECISELY........Heck even then calling it Romney-Care..........Oooopps has this happened already in MA?

Someone seems to forget that employer offered healthcare plans were once considered a BONUS or a BENEFIT or NEGOTIATED TERM BETWEEN EMPLOYER & EMPLOYEE.
But like everything else in America lately the left thinks it is their business to encroach on everyone else's personal affairs.

Nonsense .......Employers used to "fire" when someone became pregnant.....and cancer patients had to go to the hospitals emergency rooms for care......Try waiting in an ER for hours while you're writhing in pain.

I know, I know that right wingers simply HATE the individual mandate....but that's because no one will ever assume that they're too bright.....

Without the mandate, ONLY sick people will sign up, mitigating the healthy pool's input into the overall ACA...It's like passing a car insurance policy only AFTER you've had a car accident.
Republicans want to repeal the individual mandate but claim they will still ensure pre-existing conditions will be covered

They have not explained how this is done

Trump is going to "repeal and replace ObamaCare"...with Universal Health Care.

Just as I have been predicting right here on this forum for years.

You mean like what's happening under Obamacare RIGHT NOW?

You're forgetting that the penalty for NOT adhering to the mandate will soon reach the same amount as buying a HC policy.

Trump Proposes Replacing Obamacare with Government-Funded Universal Healthcare

“This is an Un-Republican thing for me to say.” “I don’t care if it costs me votes or not.”

Bhahahahaaaa!!!!! I agree with Donald. We need universal health care.

Anyone here have a catastrophic/terminal illness in their family? I did. There's no fucking HSA plan that could cover the cost of 3.5 years of cancer surgery and chemo. That's bullshit. Bill Gates's, Warren Buffett's, Walton's HSA yes. YOUR HSA? No fucking way. Not unless your HSA has over $1M in it.

Imagine how pissed off your other families members are going to be when they have to take some of their HSA savings and put it towards your next chemo infusion. Yeah. That's a great plan.

Trumps plan offers some "nice to haves" that nibble on the edges of healthcare. It is not a replacement for Obamacare and does not explain how 20 million people will be covered

So my employer can cut my health benefit and keep the money. Sweet. That's more of that looking out for the middle class by cutting the 1%'s taxes! What a guy!

But why is the Donald making it more expensive for my employer to bargain with me? I'd middle class too!

CBS News reported several nights ago that the third cause of death after heart disease and cancer was medical error. If America has the best health care on earth as the right has been saying prior to the passage of the ACA, how does this happen?

Trump Proposes Replacing Obamacare with Government-Funded Universal Healthcare

“This is an Un-Republican thing for me to say.” “I don’t care if it costs me votes or not.”

Two and a half years ago:

The outcome will be a catastrophe. ObamaCare will bankrupt the federal budget as well as most state budgets. Eventually, it will be so disastrous that the American people will cry out for single payer healthcare. Obama will be well into retirement at that point, laughing his ass off on the golf course. If I am wrong on this point, it will be that it will happen sooner than I expect.

TA-DAAAAAA!

Just a matter of time now. The people will cry out for singler payer health care.

Obamacare just failing and flailing wildly on its own.

And the people will cry out for single payer.

Just a matter of time now. The people will cry out for singler payer health care.

Why, Obamacare is here to stay and anyone that bitchs is just a far right hater... Obamacare could never just fail and piss off hundreds of millions on it's own, like it's currently doing. No it has to be some bullshit effort from the side of the Republicans, sabotaging Obamacare right g5?

Point is, Obama can be repealed simply because it will be unsustainable. It will not matter is Republicans chit talk it, it's doomed because it started too big and too late in the game for America, we already are running deficits due to other giant failing programs, but these programs already have most the nation hooked on it's welfare.

ObamaCare will one day be repealed. That much is true.

It will be repealed when it is replaced by single payer.

That would be between you and the insurance company. Government should not play a role in that.

Yeah, "right"...because health insurance companies simply "love" to insure sick people and pay out more than they take in.
