I've come to understand why they have to do the same stuff with each awful thing he does, whether it's the lies or the juvenile posts or the less-than-sane behaviors:
There is simply so goddamn much of each, that admitting ANY of them would just open the floodgates. For example, if they admit a lie of his, their inner voice asks, "so what ELSE has he lied about?" They psychologically and emotionally can't handle that.
So it's deny, justify, diminish, launch personal attacks. As we see here. It can only be one or the other.
