Trump picks Fox News host and Army National Guard veteran Pete Hegseth for defense secretary

In his announcement, Trump called Hegseth “tough, smart and
a true believer in America First.”

President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday named Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host and military veteran, as his pick for defense secretary.

In a statement, Trump described Hegseth as "tough, smart and a true believer in America First."
"With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on notice — Our Military will be Great Again, and America will Never Back Down," Trump said.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., applauded Trump’s selection, calling Hegseth a “great choice.”
“Pete brings a lot to the table. He’s got experience, and I think he’ll be reform-minded in the areas that need reform. So I’m excited about the pick,” Johnson told reporters on Capitol Hill, without elaborating on what programs he thinks need changing.

Commentary:
Let Pete answer for himself...

Just think, that if Kamala elected the alternative would have been General Milley Vanilli.
Personally, I like the choice, Hegseth has no stone to grind. os a retired major and has been in the trenches. He didn't need to have his card punched.
I'm sure that people like former retirees like Gen. Keane,
Col. McGregor and others....

Everyone is holding their breath as to who the "Press Secretary" will be.

It may be time for that position to be given to a man. Females on both sides have had it for a long time.

What’s his command experience?
Oh, he has command experience. You remember those pictures of detainees at Gitmo being subject to abuse? He was a platoon leader, probably the 84th Troop Command but I need to do more research. He was an infantry platoon leader in Iraq where he did see action. He became a captain in 2012 and went to Afghanistan where he was a senior counter insurgency trainer. How did that turn out? NOT SO GOOD.

He has no senior military or national security experience. I really don't know if he could qualify for an even midlevel security clearance, but apparently, Trump is going to hand those things out without an FBI review. Quite frightening.

The man is a disgusting, racist, pig. He is 96.4% Scandanavian, who even brags about something like that? While married and working at Fox he had an affair with his producer and they had a baby. Had he done that in the military he would have been court-martialed and spent some time in the brig. At FOX, well it is SOP.

I mean I knew, and I warned you all, this administration is going to be a total shit show. I just didn't think it would happen this fast.

Hegseth may not be a good choice for Sec Def but based on what you’ve posted here you aren’t qualified to know.

Sweet if the left is bitching this much he must be awesome and anti woke

I beg to differ. It doesn't take much to quickly understand he is a racist, misogynist, prick. Hell, he proudly broadcasts that reality. He carries way too much baggage to be the leader of the world's greatest military. I don't think he can make it through the confirmation process, it would be impossible under a "normal" Senate.

But there is a bigger problem here. And it confirms something many of us have suspected all along. Trump will surround himself with people that will bow down to him, I mean seriously, Trump has no interest in being president. He wants to be King, the Supreme Leader, he has admitted as much himself.

It was quite apparent in his first term. Cabinet member after cabinet member was dismissed for simply voicing their opinion, which happened to contradict Trump's. Hell, the man carries an enemies list in is vest pocket. That is some sickass shit and it is in no way the quality of a leader.

Trump will surround himself with people that will bow down to him,

Meaning what?

That trump should appoint people who will bow down to your agenda instead?

He was elected president, not you

Awesome, not so much. Anti-woke, I am sure you miss the irony of that term, but yes, anti-woke to the tenth degree. He made a big show of it, was going to send back his diploma to Harvard, maybe he did. But it was all for show.

Thanks for making my point. 👍

No, Trump should appoint people that have balls enough to tell him he is wrong. He should appoint people that he respects, and I know, that kind of eliminates everyone because the only person he respects is himself. Trump needs people underneath him that have the courage to say "NO". That ain't going to happen. I will give you an example.

So yesterday, I busted ass for twelve hours. Service leadership, I define it. My next level manager comes up to me near the end, said he had been wanting to talk to me all day, but I am a man on a mission, and that is a direct quote from the people around me.

The company has this evaluation thing they do and they contract it out. It is a scoring system, it is a yes or a no. And it is an evaluation of an employee. Apparantly, well, score under 95% three times, the employee is written up. A department score under 95%, the department manager is written up. That is me.

Problem, there are only eight things to evaluate, eight points. You miss one, well you are at an 87.5%. I told him, don't even come to me, or to one of my charges, and attempt to write them up for not being perfect. Totally unacceptable, no one is perfect.

He looked shocked. But then again, he is a little green and new to me. I have a reputation. I tell it like it is, I don't hold back, I don't care if you are a functioning VP. And I will walk out the door in a New York minute. I am in high demand, not the least reason, because I am precisely that way. I deliver results, just stay the hell out of the way.

I am pretty sure the new directive came from the District Manager. She is not worth tits on a boar hog. I told him, I can do math, evidently, she can't. And I give him credit, he said he would work to change that directive now that I laid things out for him. He even attempted to negotiate, what about 85% as the cutoff. I told him that was fine.

I see the VP a couple times a year, and I will on Friday. Every time I see her, it is the same. She takes me aside and we have a conversation, a real conversation. She actively solicits my input and she acts on it. That is leadership, that is not Trump.
