Trump paints himself as the real victim of Charlottesville in angry speech

He spends all this time rehashing a campaign, yet puts very little effort into pushing legislation....
Did you see the rally? He pushed for getting rid of the 60 vote requirement in the Senate, changing it to simple majority "or the Republicans will never get anything done."
This man has no more understanding of government or respect for its arrangement than a chipmunk.
That was what Harry Reid did, stop trying to change history you bitch.
I don't agree with the damage that was already done but it has to STOP. Most legislation still requires some buy in from both Dems and Repubs and that is the way it is designed to perform. So figure out a way to get some on board.
Didn't seem that the Dems who pushing unaffordable healthcare was trying to get the other side on board. If I remember correctly the door was closed to the Republicans when the dems signed the shit so you stupid liberal(redundant statement) voters could be happy.

Trump made an ass of himself once again.

Trump paints himself as the real victim of Charlottesville in angry speech
<excerpt>
At a rally in Phoenix, evocative of his populist election campaign, the US president attacked coverage of his response to the white supremacist violence and complained bitterly to his audience about how he had been treated.

He re-read three statements he made in the wake of the tragedy and, deploying authoritarian rhetoric, declared: “It’s time to expose the crooked media deceptions and to challenge the media for their role in fomenting divisions and yes, by the way, they are trying to take away our history and our heritage.” The crowd – some scowling, some laughing – turned and jeered at journalists in the media enclosure and chanted: “CNN sucks! CNN sucks!”
/----/ Pres Trump is 100% correct.

Hmm. Has the supermajority requirement always been there? No. A recent development.

The Democrats are self-destructing. I say kill the requirement for all votes, bulldoze the Democrats, ram through the policies campaigned for and then go after them hard and fast, and their media too. Considering recent Democrat behavior, I would not be surprised to see their viability as a party disintegrate before the 2018 midterms.

Of late they sound like gibbering lunatics. They have truly become the modern brownshirts.
No party deserves the right to rule autonomously. It will put us on a never ending path of legislation being enacted and then destroyed the next time the other party gets a majority. It is not practical in the long run. And 60% is no supermajority and it is not recent.

But the party achieving the electoral majority deserves to rule.

In 1917, the Senate voted to empower a supermajority of 67 to cut off a filibuster and move on to other business, using a motion known as "cloture." Then, in 1975, the Senate voted to lower the supermajority to its current number, 60. So it is quite recent in the nation's history. The Framers themselves favored simple majority rule.

Here's a famous Democrat on the matter:

It was 67 from 1917-1975.

He is right; the reasons for the filibuster rules originally (poor roads, etc) are no longer applicable and needlessly ties up the Senate.

Then they can change them, all it takes is 60 votes, Doh...
