Trump on elections in Ukraine...

Putin held elections last year.
Putin held elections. Holy crap.

Trump claimed that Zelensky had only a 4% approval rating. Zelensky’s popularity, which soared after he refused to flee in the face of an invasion by a much bigger and better-armed foe, has eroded in the intervening three years of war but has never dipped below 50%, according to the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).

I know, I know: Fake news.

Of course. The question will be, who watches the polls to make sure they are legit?

Ukrainians, folks from the EU? China, Russia or India?
I figured they could just mail out the ballots to every registered voter and put up unmanned ballot boxes on the streets.

That's how we did it in 2020, and we had the most secure election in history. :eusa_whistle:

Then no reason not to hold elections... Right?

Zelensky should easily win if his support is truly above 50%.

That puts you in the 'hold elections' camp then...correct?

This is a poll thread. The question is... If there is a ceasefire in place, should there be elections in Ukraine before a peace treaty is negotiated.

Zelensky's five year term ended a year ago.

Putin held elections last year.

at this point the war needs to end soonest,,

elections and execution of zelensky can come later

Putin is a dictator and so is Zelenskky.

Both have complete control of their media.

First of all, there are millions of people who fled Ukraine and should have a vote in any election. Second, there is not sufficient time for any opposing candidate to get his (her) message out. Third, in a country where corruption is rampant - from even before the Russian invasion - the campaign would be a shit-show.

The agreement to end the war MUST have a commitment from Zelensky to hold elections within a fixed, reasonable period.

I'd like to see elections first.

As a referendum on the handling of the war direct from the citizenry.

An overwhelming vote of confidence would give Zelensky much more leverage, reinforcing the will of Ukrainian's to continue the fight.

If he is defeated, perhaps it signals mistakes were made on both sides... which happens to be my perspective as well.

Let the people of Ukraine speak... why are we supporting a dictatorship?...

Yeah, Democrats sure are, and clowns like Lindsey Graham as well. Graham is the new old John McCain, both of whom helped overthrow a democratically elected President of Ukraine, and ushered in the 2014 revolution.

Result? We ended up with a guy who plays the piano with his penis on stage and cancels elections.

'Muh, democracy'.
