It would have been harder this time around since it would have been democrats who actually did it. The other times republicans were the ones who actually shut the government down. Of course they would have tried blaming it all on Trump but Trump's election shows that many people don't buy what the fake news is trying to spread.

Schumer was actually correct on this. Democrats shutting down the government would have:

1. backfired with democrats taking the blame from everyone but their core diehard supporters, lowering their approval numbers even more and putting future elections in jeopardy.

2. Trump and Musk would have used the shutdown to take a chainsaw to a lot more of the government than they already had.

Schumer actually tried to save democrats from themselves but it didn't work. The gallows are being built as we speak and democrats are only fighting over who will pull the lever and now Schumer has had to cancel his book tour due to security concerns stemming from his own party.

Well, now he has the Supreme Court to back him up when he breaks the law. The world has seen this before.

The only people who might be able to put a stop to this are congressional Republicans. I see no sign of that happening. Their cushy gubmit jobs are too important.

My impulse is to say, "go ahead and do your stuff, and we'll see how the mid terms go". Who knows, maybe the voters will like it.

But who knows what the elections will look like. Will red areas refuse to certify results they don't like? Will it be tougher for people to vote? Will we be mired in lawsuits?

A couple of clean election cycles would be a good thing.
