Wrong, the Russian air force had a very small bomber force before the attack. Here are the numbers:
Tu-22 Backfire 56, Tu-95 Bear 47, Tu-160 Blackjack 22. That was a total of 125 bombers of all types. The Russians admit to forty aircraft damaged or destroyed. Twelve were destroyed for sure, that is ten percent of the total Russian bomber fleet that can't be replaced with major damage to the remaining twenty-eight. Two of the destroyed aircraft were A-50 AWACS reducing the remaining AWACs aircraft in the Russian air force to TWO. They can't be replaced because Ilyushin Aircraft is located in Uzbekistan which is not exactly friendly to Russia.

The Russian bases were BOMBER bases and the bombers have been parked in the same places for years. Militaries fall into habit patterns. The USAF is no better. Add in the fact that the drones were controlled and the operators could do their own target selection.
