There are other factors involved, but basically the USA / NATO want bases in Ukraine to take down Russia and then use Russia as staging grounds to take on China.

Ukraine's sneak attack was just a publicity stunt and all it did was deep-six the peace talks.
Russia has a couple of hundred bombers at air bases throughout the country.
All the idiot Zelensky accomplished was force Putin to unleash a devastating response on Ukraine.

If Ukraine destroyed 34% of Russia's strategic bomber fleet than they don't have a couple of hundred more. Doing simple math, that would mean Ukraine destroyed just over 100 bombers out of 300, which is not what happened.

When has Russia stopped unleashing devasting attacks on Ukraine? They'll do what they've been doing since 2022
