Trump has now exempted tariffs on some major items we purchase from China. This is not winning. China has beat trump again. So when are yu guys going to learn that trump is nothing but a bunch of hot air? He sold wolf tickets and when others decided to take his challenge he punked out. Because that's what he is. A punk.

President Trump exempts smartphones, computers, microchips from new tariffs

The Trump administration exempted smartphones, computers and other electronic imports from President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs, softening the impact the duties could have on the cost of many popular tech products in the U.S.

The exemptions, published in updated guidance from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, include electronic imports made in China, which Trump has targeted with 125% reciprocal tariffs. Hard drives, memory chips and semiconductors are also among the excluded products.

Putting Apple and Samsung out of business would be a bad look. :)

Apple will spend more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced its largest-ever spend commitment, with plans to spend and invest more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years. This new pledge builds on Apple’s long history of investing in American innovation and advanced high-skilled manufacturing, and will support a wide range of initiatives that focus on artificial intelligence, silicon engineering, and skills development for students and workers across the country.

Want to throw anymore of your BS into the flames??? Anyone?

The simple explanation is that Trump's tariffs are meant to bring jobs home. For them to work it requires that American workers need to be cost effective performing the labour. That's not possible! It's the reason why the work is being done in China to start with.

Richard Wolff explains this in detail, as well as explaining why American companies would take at least a year to move and would be moving back to an uncertain market place that depends on permanent tariffs.

Who would move their company to America and have to gamble on finding American workers who are willing to work for 5 bucks an hour?

Also, to depend on American workers who are far less productive!

Massive tariffs on China still in place. 75 countries have already been in contact with our government setting up meetings for tariff negotiations, 15 compromise offers already on the table. WINNING!! Something you know little about.

What BS? These are AI and workforce initiatives that were planned for long before Skippy came back to town. :)
And the issue are the tariffs (well, not now that Trump has caved) on their core electronics like the iPhone or iPad. Neither of which will EVER be manufactured here in the good ole USA.

Is this your argument now???
I'm arguing why Trump isn't nailing tech with tariffs.

Please show some linked sources to a time line when Apple committed 500 billion to
manufacturing in the US.

I'm sorry, I can't really share that with you. But what I can tell you is that businesses like planning and certainty. And I can assure you that Apple wouldn't drop this much money on a dime. This has been planned for. Extensively. If you actually bothered to read the article you posted, you'd see that what they are investing in lines up with the Chips Act announced and their push to try and keep up with the AI revolution in servers, apps, and television, all of which COULD be manufactured here and preserve Apple's profit margin.

Trump isn't nailing tech with tariffs because if he did, he'd effectively halt consumer spending on electronics.
That would tank the economy and lead to recession.

It couldn't be tax benefits along with the no tariffs could it?
It's call business and this is how it works. :smoke:
