Trump bizarrely announces US will start building TINY CARS after gushing mini-motors are ‘really cute & beautiful’

I think the article headline is misleading. The U.S. government will not be manufacturing these mini cars and therefore neither President Trump nor congress has power to order them made. What he can and apparently will do, even according to your article, is order removal of unnecessary rules and regs that made these mini cars less practical or in some cases illegal. The article also quotes the Ford CEO as being excited about the possibilities in the small car market.

Whether the American public will latch onto them as a desirable form of transportation remains to be seen. If it does it opens up a whole new market. If it doesn't. oh well. Nothing gained but nothing lost either. Auto makers simply will not build them for an American market.
Big trucks and SUV's still rule American sales.
Ram even brought back the 5.7 Hemi.
People have stuff to haul and tow.

Makes no sense to fine companies for providing exactly what the consumer demands.

Yes. Liberty can definitely include the right, power, opportunity to buy what you want and not what the government says you may have.

So the verdict is still out on whether a less restricted small car market will catch on. Again if it does, great. If it doesn't, that's okay too. Auto makers will not be forced to build autos that the American people don't want.

I love my power stroke, but they have taken a back seat to F150s.
Many MANY Americans love the macho vehicles that are so prevalent on the American scene. At one time so did we. But now, at our age, our modest Subaru Legacy sedan suits us best and includes all the important safety features.

It is great to live in a country where we have so many choices.

Subaru's are BIG up in snow country. I would wager they give the big 3 a run for their money up here. I have jobs I have to get done on the property so my larger vehicles are by necessity. It is nice that they make them so comfortable these days though.

Albuquerque doesn't get a lot of snow but when it does people are not accustomed to driving in it, driving on just wet streets for that matter, and pretty much go batsh*t crazy. We try real hard to stay home until all the crazies are mostly off the streets. :)

But the AWD feature on our Subaru is one of the really great safety features for us and does give us some security. Until AWD was a regular feature we drove Subarus with 4WD. But we lived in the Texas Panhandle and north Central Kansas long enough to become skilled managers of slick streets as well as living up on our mountain for 14 years where snow was measured in feet more than inches.

I spent my career in CA and was a regular visitor to the Sierra Nevada. It always made me laugh when chain requirements went up for a wet road. LOL, I've lived here for 12 years now and I've seen days with up to a foot of snow on the roads and no chain requirements--locals understand the value of studded tires though.
