AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton ratcheted up President Donald Trump’s congressional redistricting fight by calling Tuesday for progressive activist Beto O’Rourke to be put “behind bars” for helping Democrats who have managed to block the GOP’s gerrymandering efforts with an extended walkout.

Hours earlier, Texas Republican leaders said they were prepared to end their stalemated special session that includes the proposed new maps and immediately begin another standoff with Democratic legislators. Dozens of Democrats have left the state to prevent their GOP colleagues from voting on the changes and meeting Trump’s demands ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

The developments are the latest escalations in a battle that began in Austin and now reaches into multiple courtrooms and statehouses controlled by both major parties.

The last time I checked, Free Speech is protected under the First Amendment and according Republicans consider money free speech. O'Rourke is a pain in Paxton's butt. But he still has the right to free speech.

Prison is an extreme position. I suspect that Texans are tired of dark money from out of state influencing their elections. Even if Beto lives in Texas there is no way the big money they raise isn't coming from California and New York.

I'm amused by the left's going ballistic over Texas being redistricted. Like they haven't already DONE that to the GOP in every single State that they could? You've got Democratic idiots threatening to "fight fire with fire!" Which is hilarious because you've ALREADY gerrymandered every State you control! They're starting to sound like Dean Wormer from Animal House threatening "Double Secret Probation!"

The Texas House approved a bill Wednesday that would limit campaign contributions from out-of-state donors to statewide and local races in Texas.in may of this year.
They capped it at about from 5000 to 1000 based on the what type of election it is.

Out-of-state PACs would still be able to make unlimited contributions to candidates.

The story list some insane amount of money that was flowing in from outside the state to local canidates in Texas. It seem deep pockets outside the state were bankrolling certain canidates to win in order to change the political landscape in Texas

I guess Texas is for texans and not outside influences.

If you ONLY did some research.
WA, the focus is WA State, and your claim. More States to Follow.

1,2, 8, and 10 are heavily gerrymandered.

Idiot....^^^^
I live here. In this exact area.
Vacant LAND doesn't have a vote.

The Cascade Mountains, as Beautiful as they are, has very few voters.....LOOLLLOLLLL....Moron.

You excel at Lying. You ******* liar.

8 of 10 are (D).
Look it up.

All WA State would have to do to get 10 of 10.
Is link King County to Spokane, in two links.

Is that fair?

Provide some proof.

Are you able?
Doubt it.
Look at the map. 7 and 9 make sense, dense population distribution, whereas 1 and 10 are clearly urban centric but could easily be more representative of rural areas. There is a reason that didn't happen.

Just Stop.
you say you live in WS.
I drove through there (WS) last year, a beautiful State.
One of my (OUR) Favorites.

I LOVE where I live, East of I-5 in Washington State.
Why are you mad at me?

Wisconsin is WI, FYI. It is a matter of density and how you cut it up on the maps. Given that, WA could probably shift from 8-2 D-R, to 9-1 D-R, on tight margins, which could result in 7-3 results. Maybe they are just playing it safe. Not all gerrymandering is necessarily bad, that only becomes an issue when one party specifically seeks to exclude voters from representation.

Politicians choosing their voters VERSUS Voters choosing their Politicians.

Gerrymandering is WRONG.

LOL...Now it's wrong? Was it wrong when Illinois, New York, Massachusetts and California did it?

Let's cut to the bottom line here, Winco. Texas is gaining in population because people are fleeing States like California, who's liberal policies have made it hard to live there. Texas is going to get more House seats and States like California are going to get LESS! That's simply a fact. The same thing is going to happen with States like Florida and New York. People are moving out of liberally controlled New York for Florida. So Florida will gain House seats and New York will lose them. It already happened to New York. They lost a seat because of the 2020 Census. So you know what the Democrats did that had control of the State government? You guessed it! They redistricted. They Gerrymanded to the extent that they GAINED two House seats in the next election even though they got a smaller percentage of the vote! That's what Democrats have been doing and now they are crying about Texas? That's laughable! If the GOP played hardball like the Democrats have been doing it's estimated that they could add up to 10 Republican members in just the State of Texas! If the Dems want to "fight fire with fire" they're going to find themselves on the short end of the stick in a major way! So bring it if that's the way you want to play this but don't whine when it ends up blowing up in your face!

Come on be nice to them as they need something

  • Wyoming is the most Republican state in the U.S.. 67% of residents in Wyoming identify as Republican or Republican-leaning. Wyoming has low taxes across the board, including no state income tax.
So the best state for republican is Wyoming

The thanks the state gets, Most Republicana cannot find Wyoming on the map without it being named specifically on the map.

Newsome called out Abbott.

You don't want CA all

As far as Newsome's threats to redistrict? I'd be curious how many of the House Democrats from California want to jump on THAT train! You see, here's the problem. California is losing population. Both legal residents as well as illegals. When the next census is done? California is going to lose multiple seats in the House. It's going to be like a game of musical chairs. You've got Democrats that used to have "safe" districts that may not have a district at all or a district that's been totally changed to keep some other Democrat in office! You'll also have an electorate that's pissed about Democrats handling the fires in LA and about a huge budget deficit. How many of THOSE Democrats are going to want Newsome "watering down" their district? You won't hear them say it publicly but trust me...that discussion is taking place behind closed doors!
