Trump: "A Tariff is a tax that doesn’t affect our country"

We all should be free to do what we want with our money (legally). But tariffs are taxes that maga supports because Trump lies to them that these taxes don't affect the economy. They do. They MAKE GOODS MORE EXPENSIVE.

But still, I'm willing to ignore Trump's lies about his economic "policy" if Harris is free to lie about her own "policies."

Quick question. China subsodized a battery car and they can sell us battery cars here in America for $10,000. It costs $50K to buy American. Should we let the $10K car in?

But as soon as that company bankrupts the American companies, China will stop subsodizing that company and that company, once it's the only one left, will jack it's prices up to $60K.

So should we let that company in? Not only is it not fair because they pay the employees shit, the company is also government subsodized.

🤣

Which fking country have YOU been living in?

Look at Cereal companies. Suddenly no one is buying their product and they had to lower the price. They can't pay the workers any less than they already do. I assure you the CEO isn't going to get a big bonus this year and stocks for cereal is probably down.

But I see your point.

They are called wars for a reason. And why some of Tarrifs we apply to that market may have to subsidize our farmers.

You want to be owned by China then you do nothing.

Dog murderer. Your dog kills my chickens im gonnabl shoot it.

This is patently false. Either Trump doesn't understand basic economics or he's lying. No matter what he says, tariffs aren't paid by the other country. They're paid by you. In 2019, the Trump administration doled out billions in "free" money to farmers who could no longer sell their goods to China due to their retaliatory strike in buying American agriculture due to Trump's tariffs. I believe this is what MAGA calls "Socialism."

Trump is so incredibly stupid.

After a series of tariff increases on Chinese imports, the government of China retaliated against U.S. exporters, as predicted by trade analysts outside of the administration. As a result, U.S. exports, particularly of agricultural goods, dropped significantly. “Losing the world’s most populous country as an export market has been a major blow to the [U.S.] agriculture industry,” reported the New York Times in August 2019. “Total American agricultural exports to China were $24 billion in 2014 and fell to $9.1 billion last year, according to the American Farm Bureau.” In 2018, U.S. farmers’ soybean exports to China declined by 75%, according to the U.S. International Trade Commission.

To shore up political support from farmers, Donald Trump approved increasing amounts of government aid to farmers harmed by the trade policies that the Trump administration itself initiated. Trump was open about the purpose of the payments. “I sometimes see where these horrible dishonest reporters will say that ‘oh jeez, the farmers are upset,’” he told attendees of an Illinois farmer show in August 2019. “Well, they can’t be too upset, because I gave them $12 billion and I gave them $16 billion this year. . . . I hope you like me even better than you did in ’16.”

The South American Countries like Brazil and Argentina jumped at the chance to fill those contracts with China. You just as well keep the tariffs on since the sales won't be made anyway., I would support tariffs that are designed to penalize companies that moved their brand to China and other cheap slave labor areas but to just willynilly do it because you are smarter than the Economists should never be done.

Well, the federal government used to be funded entirely by tariffs and there was no income tax.

So tariffs do have some merit, especially in leveling national trade deficits.

No. They simply result in retaliatory tariffs, and in your trading partners boycotting American goods.

Just look at what happened to your balance of trade when Trump started 7 trade wars with all of your trading partners, in 2017. The trade deficit in 2016 was $735 billion. By the end of 2018, it was $870 billion. In 2019, your EXPORTS declined by $20 billion.

Your trade deficit hit $1 trillion dollars in 2021 as American restocked and is now back down to pre-pandemic levels, but there is a long way to go to get it back to pre-Trump levels.

For example, Trump's much vaunted rewrite of NAFTA. Your trade deficit with Canada before the renegotiation was $11 billion and $63 billion with Mexico. Trump was outraged. Trump renegotiated the deal and now your trade deficit with Canada was $64 billion and $152 billion with Mexico.

Notice how your exports to Canada dropped by $7 billion after Trump slapped tariffs on Canada. I stopped buying US Products. My friends and neighbours did too. When Trump put tariffs on European goods, Eurpopeans boycotted your products too.

Do you really want to see what happens when you put a tariff on EVERYTHING the world sells to you????

It's not tariffs on everything, just tariffs on countries that put tariffs on our stuff, and they're designed to encourage
domestic production. You know, self sufficiency. Now I realize that you, as an advocate for China, don't like the idea.
Well tough noogies!
