Because Clinton advisers weren’t trying to have secret meetings with Russian spies?
According to Comey, they were trying to "protect" Trump from the Russians.
Would they not as a matter of course seek to protect Clinton as well? Or did they as suspected by all rational men have something else in mind?

People in Trump's campaign had ties to Russian agents, most namely Manafort who's shady dealings go back a long way. We already know the FBI dropped the ball when it came to Hillary and such but her campaign just contracted with for fake intel rather than had people in the campaign that may have been working with Russians in a nefarious manner.

So, why did Comey both excoriate and exonerate Clinton in the same breath, given such clear evidence of criminal behavior?

“I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump,” Gowdy said Tuesday during an interview on Fox News.
Gowdy last week attended a classified DOJ briefing alongside other top lawmakers regarding the informant and the tactics the FBI had used during the 2016 campaign.

“I am even more convinced that the FBI did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump,” Gowdy said during an interview on Fox News.
In recent days, Trump has parroted misleading claims about the FBI’s use of the informant as part of its counter-intelligence investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, dubbing the individual a “spy” and referring to the controversy as “Spygate.”
Gowdy’s comments were significant because the former federal prosecutor participated in a classified briefing about the informant last week that was conducted by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray. The so-called “Gang of Eight”—which includes House and Senate leaders in addition to the top Republicans and Democrats on the intelligence committees—also joined the briefing. The Democrats present at the meeting previously released a joint statement saying they heard “no evidence” from Rosenstein and Wray that a “spy” was placed within the Trump campaign.
