I remember during the Vietnam era when University California at Berkeley was the beacon of free speech for hippies. They could freely protest the war or drug laws or whatever they wanted. And it was a glorious thing, a 1st Amendment celebration, even though it grated on the nerves of many Americans.
Now fast forward 50 years or so.
Turning Point USA, the organization founded by Charlie Kirk, had a rally scheduled for this august university. For those who have blanked out the last couple of months., Mr. Kirk was assassinated by a psycho two months ago in Utah in front of his wife and children and thousands of attendees at an outdoor rally.
And so now, in Berkeley, the squalid little Communist Indoctrination Center protected by the likes of Gavin Newsom, when TPUSA supporters gathered to celebrate Charlie's life and goal, Antifa punks showed up, yelling, screaming obscenities, beating one man, showing what vile lowlife pieces of shit they are. Nowadays, free speech just doesn't matter if somebody doesn't like what you're saying, even if it's the truth. What matters now is a whole lot of attitude and anger and blind rage by staggeringly ignorant, creepy people who worship violence and thuggery.

It's confusing. In the 60s during the free speech movement, hippies and radicals protested the Vietnam War mainly because it was nascent Leftists speaking out against/denouncing what they saw as a wholly Right Wing war, that made the protest OK.

MMMNn no how about college campuses are suppossed to be violence free ..zero tolerance. You come there to throw something at someone .. or intimidate someone who is trying to talk period. College Campuses are for the exchange of ideas... if a participant was able to get an OK for their rally by the faculty .. then that rally needs to be honored. Under British rule, the crown could simply state a person was a liar or heretic and have them silenced. One person's truth is always someone else's lie, and one person's lie is always someone elses truth anyways...
I think the idea is words should only be challenged with other words and ideas, but once one group gets to lable YOUR words alone as violence... then they can feel free and justified to use actual violence against you.
