The right’s hypocrisy concerning free speech on full display

What happened to Kirk was tragic and disgusting. But I must say, I'm pretty certain that Kirk had a comment filter on his youtube channel. I posted reasonable comments there that did not show up, but did when posted to a different youtube channel. And this isn't limited to only his channel. A common theme among these right wing youtube channels that promote free speech is that they have comment filters, and they remove comments they don't agree with...so much for free speech.

You have the right to speech but that doesnt mean you can go into someone's house and start saying anything you want.

“Dozens of social media posts and messages about the murder of Charlie Kirk, including some that celebrated his death, are being spotlighted by conservative activists, Republican elected officials and a doxxing website as part of an online campaign to punish the posters behind the messages.”

The doctrine of free speech holds that individuals may express views and opinions with impunity, including speech perceived by some as offensive or inappropriate.

And although private entities are at liberty to censor speech they find offensive, it doesn’t warrant individuals being doxed or terminated from employment – that conservatives seek to do exactly that is yet another manifestation of the right’s hypocrisy concerning ‘free speech.’

You don’t think an employer has the right to fire someone that is sick and twisted enough to celebrate murdering someone because of their political beliefs?

Well, sorry you sickos can’t work for me

As we all know republicans, particularly those of the tRump supporting variety, would have no standards at all if it weren't for double standards.
An employer has an obligation to protect other employees and customers from people that are willing to murder others simply because they have different view points

So celebrate the homicide of Kirk all you want..make it public so we can identity you

I don't know that opposition to free speech is limited to either the right or the left since both sides seem to be conspicuously selective about what words or thoughts they want banned.

Even though I knew and cared little about Kirk, I could not applaud his murder regardless of his words or sentiments.

Even though I strongly support free speech, I cannot support those who are cheering his death or feel that, somehow, deserved the death he got.

I also cannot support the persecution or restricting of those who exercise their right to look like crude and hateful fools.

I believe that firing individuals who write dumb and / or hateful things only further polarizes the existing social division and tends to increases the existing bitterness.

Finally, I simply fear that if angry people cannot ventilate verbally that they are more likely to act out in a more violent manner.

Thanks,

You won't see me do that to anyone. Just not my style nor my ideology, I prefer Voltaires position on free speech.

Regardless, people should be self regulating themselves really. Who is raised to respond to the assassination of a guy for his speech by laughing, celebrating death and acting as if their football team just scored a TD? This to me is a no-brainer.

There is a real sickness and yes, I've said it, it has infected both sides to varying degrees. Right now Brian Kilmeade is getting alot of traction for all the wrong reasons on twitter for what he said about euthanizing the homeless. He is just getting lambasted and rightfully so, what a sick and insensitive comment to make when there are vets and even kids who are homeless out there.

Trump needs to unite the country in a difficult time, that would be my advice to him. Yes, speak out about the horror of the crime but also reach out. If he reaches out he can remind Dems that they refuse to want to see America unite and succeed, but one has to keep trying. That's part of the job description as much ash he'd rather focus on economic policies.
Trump not only cannot unite the country but the sole reason for asking is to prevent him from doing so. Then degenerate democrats can yammer on about how he failed to unite the country.

Democrats have impeached him on nonsense twice, tried to kill him twice, had a fake raid on his home, stole his wife's underwear and his son's toys. Democrats have slandered him and his family, maligned his name, called his wife a whore. Democrats have engaged in endless ginned up lawmakers on fake charges, tried to take his properties, pursued phony claims against his friends, tried to get his lawyers disbarred and bent over backwards trying to find some link to a sex offender.

There is no level so low that democrats will not sink. But now, now they have taken a step too far and gotten someone killed they want unity. No. No unity.. Never unity, not with these bastards.

Kirk had every right to talk nonsense or whatever but his moralizing about humans who are different gets old. Live and let live be you gay straight or whatever. Do no harm is the golden rule. That is the intersection where many religions and religious go and create unhelpful attitudes towards others.

There have been many threads these past few days that relate how the DNC and media influenced Tyler Robinson's action. Reading them sure brings home the point that some liberals have in their concern over the entertainment industry's influence with their vast output of violence within movies, television, and video games that they crank out. It's unfortunate that these tragedies never get past the point of self-serving rhetoric by both sides.

Kirk was an asshole. I have the right to say that and I will.

The biggest hypocrisy concerning Free Speech is from the side that supports Hate Speech enforcement. Hate Speech is subjective and is never consistently applied.

You are free to say whatever you want, just finally now there are consequences for choosing to be a hateful bastard publicly.
Please post up your own now on Face Book, link it here, along with your employer name and address.

You're hypocrites.
And so are plenty of people on the left. They celebrated when other people got fired and deplatformed for saying things they were offended about for years. Kevin Hart lost hosting the Oscars for supposed homophobic tweets he made about a decade earlier. Doctors were kicked off of Twitter for questioning the orthodoxy of COVID. Some who turned out to right BTW. Now, the pendulum is swinging the other way, as it always does. Why would the left not want their own to be held just as accountable for what they say as they do for the right?

There is a huge difference between murderous threats or inciting violence from speech that states basic facts or ignores facts to support a delusional fantasy.

Huge difference.

And your whataboutism is dead....DOA. Doesn't equate....apples and bananas. (We are bypassing oranges because the truth is very different from delusion)

I don't feel afraid or even toss a glance over my shoulder when someone declares a chair is comfortable to sit in even if I think its the most uncomfortable chair ever constructed.
However when someone is screaming assasination threats or violence....that gets my notice and I am no longer comfortable with them having the same freedoms I enjoy...especially with safeguarding children.
