The Dems shot themselves in the ass, anointing Harris. She was a useless dunsel of a VP, with no reason, whatsoever to think, she was Presidential material. It is still Joe's fault, for overestimating his condition and ability to perform, all the way up until after the primaries were over and he was on the debate stage. With everybody knowing pretty much how dumb Trump was (and is), for Joe to be that lost in a debate with him, really told the story, of his condition. But, holding out until then, screwed the Dems.

I cannot say that was wrong. I don't even think Joe ever thought her presidential material. But, if he had announced officially in Nov/Dec, instead of forging ahead, there could have been real primary challengers, but there simply wasn't, as the sitting president was the nominee, inflation on the way down, and we were finally out of Afghanistan. Jobs were expanding, construction was expanding, oil was at all time high production, and ahead of any other country. After the debate, was simply too late.
I do not know who was actually calling the shots during the last year, to year and a half, and don't really care. It could have been someone or possibly just the team he had selected, actually doing their jobs. Whatever or whoever we were going in the right direction, so without it known across the party of his condition picking up speed, there was nobody to intercede to convince him, we wasn't up for 4 more years, and convincing somebody with levels of dementia/Alzheimer they aren't thinking right as ever is not an easy thing. At least, nobody until he lost it on the debate stage, showing it to the nation, but too late to find a candidate, with a process that would look like anything other than a coronation. I figure, she got two voting blocks nationwide, those being die-hard Democrats and of course the anti-Trump vote.

It's ultimately Joe's fault for not realizing he simply couldn't handle a much more accomplished politician, but at the same time, given what caused his decline, he may not have even had the ability to know he was seriously diminished. Apparently, no one in the inner circle had the balls to confront him and shuffle him off the stage.

I guess that's what happens in a cult when dear leader holds all the cards.

Why is it that huge numbers of people very clearly recognized Joe Biden's mental decline in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, but the diehard cult was completely taken by surprise in July of 2024?
