A fascinating docu style drama of life in the south after emancipation.

The drama highlights the essential laziness and stypidity of southern society as they grapple over a bag of turnips and such. They marry teenagers just like they do now.

Its likely to be of interest to anthropologists and political scientists who want to trace the roots pf maga.

Gods Little Acre is a good double feature to Tobacco Road. Maybe a good reading of the books may change you mind of the film. They are two of my favorite movies. Erskin Cadwell e author of the stories. Welcome to Southern White Poverty in the USA. It has always interested me in wealthy white folks opinion of poor white folks it is totally different than their opinions of other groups.

Shiftless Jeeter Lester (Charley Grapewin) and his family of hillbilly stereotypes live in a rural backwater where their ancestors were once wealthy planters. Their slapstick existence is threatened by a bank's plans to take over the land for more profitable farming; subplots involve the affairs and marriages of son Dude (William Tracy) and daughter Ellie May (Gene Tierney).

wonder if tommy realizes those folks were based on Democrats whose ancestors lost the war between the states?

Those "roots" were the seeds of todays white liberal's tommy and you don't need to be an anthropologist or political scientist to look it up, just some rudimentary reading skills...today's socially educated Americans are the fruit they bore...those folks used to beat their chests and proclaim they would vote for a blue/"yeller" dog if it were a democrat as they despised the industrialists from the north...
...they ran around saying things like "the south's gonna do it again"...look it all up tommy, it's a fact.

We could see it in the other reality doc Beverley Hillbillies.Obviously these were nicer folk than real southerners. They were nasty racist lynching shit. Jed Clampett never hurt a fly.

"The South after emancipation"? I'll say, It's well after emancipation about FDR's Great Depression.

The south never recovered from having their slaves set free.
Today the region survives on federal money.
They are too ******* lazy and stupid to make their own way.
They are a net drain on the US. Same as it ever was.

He never moves an inch without porn rag Guardian support .

Look at his OP .
That is not Tithead in a million years .

He has copy -pasted and imagined nobody would notice .
So
Fake News plus Tithead Cheating .
Tommy's ok...his misguided links and references to propaganda are his major fault...not such a bad thing.

Mostly the slaves were imported by the British. Former slaves were driving cars during the Tobacco Road movie..
