This country has more weapons in private possession than most countries in the world.

I suggest you look up the Romanian revolution. It began with a few Olympic athletes using their target .22 pistols to kill the guards. They then took the guards AKM's and used those to kill the next group and took those weapons which they then passed on to the next group of revolutionaries. Of course there were a lot of revolutionaries who were killed because they had to arm themselves the hard way. Of course, had they been armed in the first place they would never have had to endure a terror where tens of thousands of them were murdered by the government in the first place. Which is the whole reason why the 2nd Amendment merely states that we have the natural Right to keep and bear weapons. And just so you know (because you really seem to be powerfully ignorant on the subject) there are LOTS of people who own tanks and cannons.
