Gotta disagree with you again, Stann. The Great Wall was breached (twice) but it's purpose wasn't to prevent a large force from entering China...it's purpose was to delay an invading force so China could assemble it's armies and also to keep smaller raiding parties from attacking. It was actually rather effective for the better part of 2,500 years.

China didn't give up on walls. Quite obviously. They kept building theirs for for centuries. The reason it wasn't a key defensive structure wasn't because it didn't work...it became less important because the Chinese expanded their borders far beyond the Great Wall.
