So.....the show "Titans," on HBOMax is better than I expected. Still don't like the 70s street hooker look of Starfire in the first season......but...

SPOILERS......

So, at the end of the first season, Dick Grayson, the first Robin, is in a fantasy world. In this world, the Joker kidnapped Commissioner Gordon, tortured him for a week then murdered him. Barbara Gordon is missing. Jason Todd, the second Robin, has been paralyzed by the Riddler, and the Gotham police are more corrupt and evil than when Batman began his fight...

So...the Joker is responsible for countless deaths....he is a mass murderer. Also, the authorities can't keep him in custody for even short periods of time......they can't catch him, they can't hold him. The Batman can catch him...which he does over and over again.....and then he escapes, murders countless numbers of new people and gets captured again...

In the fantasy world that Dick Grayson is captured in, he goes to Gotham to try to convince Batman not to kill the Joker....Jason Todd has warned Grayson that Batman is finally going to kill the Joker.....

Why shouldn't Batman finally put an end to the mass murderer, the Joker?

In real life yes a maniac like joker should be put down.

In comics no, he’s too entertaining.

Batman is a Bleeding Heart Progressive.

The comics explore that more thoroughly. Batman is messed up himself. He's got this weird codependent relationship with the Joker going on. He just can't kill the guy. He needs to have him around as his darker twin.

Yeah.....I know why they keep him around.....should the Batman kill him to save lives?

Yeah, I get that too.......a recurring villain is important for a comic, but talking about reality of that world.....

Batman, even as a vigilante, sets himself above those he tracks down.

He will fight them, capture them, get them put away, but he will not lower himself to become what they are, ie, murderers.

Killing a murderer is not murder. Allowing a criminal to murder innocent men, women and children is not elevating yourself....

Killing a murderer is not murder.

The justice system says different.

Batman is a Bleeding Heart Progressive.
so are the majority of comic super heroes.....

Batman comics, as well as other early comic characters, were written for kids. In the Batman comics, Batman's stance was basically, I will not kill people (to send a message to the kids reading the comics). Apparently, this concept has continued, even into present day depictions.
As these new portrayals of Batman in film (Christian Bale, et cetera), are more hardcore action shows to bring in the adults, I personally see no problem with the character killing off those that are threatening his life. Then of course, the studios would have to keep creating new weird villain characters for him to destroy. But then, where would DC Comics that holds the rights to the Batman character, as well as others, stand on Batman actually killing his foes. They may stand their ground and say, no.

Yep.....and that stand becomes sillier and sillier...

If Batman stands for justice , then he cannot kill the guy or he becomes no different that the criminals. He can play the fear card but murder is a crime unless the state does it then it's legal.

If The Joker commits murder in NYC he can run for mayor.

He can also run for president and order a military hit.

What part of the Joker being a mass murderer of innocent people is escaping this discussion?

Batman isn't murdering innocent men, women and children, he is not randomly killing innocent people..

The Joker is a murderer.....many times over. He is unrepentent, and continues to murder whenever the mood takes him...

How do you guys say that Batman would be no different than him? I'm sorry, that is just silly....

Batman's mere existence is a crime.....his activities are a crime.....but stopping a murderer is not a crime.

Something tells me that somewhere in comic book history the Joker has unleased a deadly virus of some kind......does anyone know?

In The Joker's first appearance, he uses a virus to turn Batman into a Bleeding Heart Liberal when Batman looks at The Joker.

That's also the James Bond question isn't it? How many times does SMERCH have Bond on a table with some elaborate method of doing away with him when they could have put a bullet in his head?
