Throbbing Gristle

Also referred to as "The Wreckers of Civilization" by those who fail to understand their purpose, Throbbing Gristle essentially created the musical genre of what we now know as industrial (along with the likes of the German band, Einstürzende Neubauten). They managed to do this by combining elements of musique concrete, noise, punk rock, and free improvisation into their music. Their sound has been called everything from brilliant and raw-sounding to being "noisey crap." While they have released over twenty-four hours of recorded music, they mainly have four original primary albums: The Second Annual Report (1977), D.o.A.: The Third and Final Report (1978), 20 Jazz Funk Greats (1979), and Heathen Earth (1980). If you wish to get into this "band" then I suggest you start with 20 Jazz Funk Greats, which is their most accessible album (while their most critically acclaimed album being their second ).

Their influences:
> Karlheinz Stockhausen
>John Cage
>The Velvet Underground
