Thread titles should be more descriptive and relevant to what you want to discuss

That is to say that if someone posts topical content, the thread title should reflect the link or whatever.

Not just something we have to guess at. Meaning we shouldn't have to click on the thread to see what the topic is.

Thanks.. Mod Staff made that request a policy in the recent announcement --

Many reasons for this..

1) to make it easier for members and mods to find existing topics to avoid duplications and facilitate merges. Can't search for active threads without this..

2) to make topics advertise what the intended discussion is about and what's "on topic"...

3) to promote a FOCUS on starting threads cleanly without "juicing" the titles..

Oh, sorry, I didn't see that thread. I wasn't trying to step on anyone's jack boots, I was just genuinly tired of it.

These non-descriptive titles still "slip thru -- but we are catching most of them that matter.. It's more important in the high volume, news driven forums than it is for instance in Gardening or Sports..
I'm glad there is now a policy requiring descriptive titles. It's a huge time waster to click on nonsense titles just to see what the thread is about. I just scroll past them but, imo they really litter the board.

Didn't everyone learn how to write a Topic Sentence in Jr high school?

Here are a few useless thread titles I came across just tonight:

* Recession
* Help me
* TV Shows A to Z
* Poor lil Mary
* Xiden has higher approval
* USA in decline, iron gloves are too
* Leftists and Barbie doll
* Dominion must be hurting
* Reacher 2
* Clean Start
* Conflict of interest
* Ridgerunner

All mods should be required to spend half their day deleting these poorly titled threads. A big plus is that the task will give mods something positive to do (and help keep them out of our hair).

Thanks in advance.

If I have it right you better take off that last one: ridgerunner. I didn’t check the thread, but that is referencing a former, long-time and respected poster, yes? Funny how you develop loyalty to people on here that you’ve never met. Ridgerunner impressed the heck out of me with his posts, honesty, and humor. You are a “long-timer” yourself aren’t you Monk? Maybe I’m wrong?

Sure seems that line is blurring more and more about people jumping on the bandwagon about expanding rules -asking for additional requirements fits in there…. just sayin, carry-on.

Worst thing that can happen to this country is a modern day scenario of Orwell’s 1984. Yeah I know, this is just a message board, but little things add up fast. The saying “watch what you wish for” is relevant because once you get a foot in the door you can soon get in a leg, and then the rest of your body seems to naturally follow… unless you’re some kind of unique contortionist maybe.

I'm NOT criticising ridgerunner.

I'm simply bringing attention to the fact that the single word (ridgerunner) in the title makes NO sense by itself.

There has to be additional information given in order for that title to have some meaning.

Was the thread title in relation to his recent death, giving people the fact? Just checked and yes.

Idk monk, you’ve been here for five years so I thought you would’ve known exactly what that thread would entail.

I'd never heard of ridgerunner. But that doesn't matter.

The whole point of a thread TITLE is to tell anyone who comes across the thread what the thread is about. That's the only way a browser would know if it's worth his time to open the thread.

It's a waste of time to go around opening threads if you have NO idea whether they contain anything of interest to you.

If the Ridgerunner thread was meant to let people know he had died, it could have, and should have, been stated in the title.

It's simple. The title could have said something like:

"Ridgerunner has passed away"

That title makes sense. The original one word title said NOTHING.

Unless the individual was upset and trying to deliver a message and control their emotions. You could see how someone could struggle a bit, right?

If we were serious about thread titles they would be listed as such:
1. I hate Trump (part 1)
2. Trump is going down (part 354)
3. Trump fornication porn thread.
4. I saw a black person......in a video this one time at band camp.
5. So, you still think Biden is mentally fit?
6. WTF were you people thinking when you voted for Biden?
7. We are all going to die
8. We are all going to die because of a civil war
9. We are all going to die because of China.
10. ...Because of Russia.
11. ...Because of Biden.
12. I hate women because feminism.
13. There are no hurricanes.
14. I hate Democrats.
