Pachamama was Incan, not Amazonian. Amazonians were animists, meaning they had worshiped no gods, symbols, or idols. Their basic belief was in the spirituality of everything, including mountains. Yes, like many cultures, ancient Amazonians used the earth as a metaphor for motherhood.

Note, that the statue was carved about twenty years ago for a Catholic Amazonian community. The carving was not of a naked woman, but of a mountain (looks like a pregnant mountain symbolizing motherhood) with a woman's face, and representing no religious figure, only the Amazon itself. Simultaneously, Catholic natives began to fondly referenced the carving as, "Our Lady of the Amazon." This image had nothing to do with the Incas' Pachamama. Incas never lived in the Amazon.

I dont think so.

If they were imaginary and offered as gods to be worshiped, they would be pagan idols. That they artistically represent beings/people from the Bible or Christians from post Biblical times makes them symbolic and not pagan idols.

I carry many medals with depictions of saints on them.

When I hold a medal of St. Anthony and ask him to help me find a lost object, there hasn't been a single time it hasn't worked for me.

I don't feel the teeniest bit pagan.
