Instead of marginalizing him as a nutcase, you've successfully given him a very real shot at becoming the next president. Instead of allowing his supporters to get tired of his ego, you've successfully fired them up and made them even more determined to not only vote for him, but to convince as many as possible to do the same, and you've convinced many independent leaning voters to move away from the democrats because of the heavy-handed, obvious attempts to destroy him politically. Congratulations, you've set the stage for any win by Quid Pro Joe that is in any way close to be even more contentious than before. Active shooting would not surprise me.

The crazies support trump because they are crazy. Not because anything anybody else does.
The intensity of the support, however, varies. If you had virtually ignored TRUMP! for the last 4 years, his ego would have turned many away and the marginally aligned would have trended away from him. Instead, you've kept him front and center, his supporters are more fired up than ever, and many on the margins are not happy with a democrat party that is blatantly determined to use any means available to them to destroy one person. A lot are scratching their heads, thinking "This is not the America I grew up in", and are not liking it.
Many criminals wish their crimes were just ignored. but that's not how it works.

The rules disallowing seditionists the right to hold the presidency have nbeen in effect for a long time. Why do you want to ignore existing rules for him?
When he's convicted of sedition, then we can say he's a seditionist and can fight it out in court as to whether the one rule applies to him or not.
